Thank you to all you Vets out there! You guys and gals make it possible for us to do the things we love.

Thanks Gary.

I think it's also important not to lose sight of the facts that every Veteran benefits a great deal from their service and sacrifice.
(VA home loans that require no down payment, lower auto insurance through USAA, discounts just about everywhere you shop, lifelong disability payments if you're injured during service (even if you don't reach retirement status of 20 years), lifelong healthcare thru the VA,and one heck of a retirement package if you make it to that point in your career... )

Not to mention the reality that....

Every vet chose to serve (outside of the older draftees), got paid pretty well to do so for their generation (when everything is taken into account), and got to see and live all over the world.
All this was made possible by your tax dollars... so I want to take this time to thank everyone who hasn't served on Veteran's Day for paying for my Bachelor's and Masters degrees, training me how to operate a nuclear reactor, and moving me and all my crap (fishing stuff included) 6 times to 3 different countries over the course of 6 years of service as well as giving me a free ride via ship to 26 ports of call for liberty ashore. I have no complaints and require no thanks... people who never put on a uniform but pay taxes made all that possible and for that I will be forever grateful. Yeah it's hard work and it sucked being away from family and friends but no other job I know of would have provided me those opportunities and been so personally rewarding in such a short amount of time at the start of my career.

My point here is that everyone plays their part...

Yes, agreed we owe so many of our liberties to those who have laid their lives on the line so we could enjoy our freedoms. Was looking at some Veteran's day videos but really thought I should pay respect to our dear friends in Canada who so graciously accept our presence for one, two or a few weeks a year. I really don't think it matters what flag these warriors wore on their chest or sleeve, we owe you everything. For that, I thank you very much.

Dog, you're right that Vets get many benefits, but you and the others EARNED every one of them and MORE. Most are like you and saw it as their duty and expect no thanks, but you're going to get it anyways. THANKS! Gary.
