Anyone make a fishing pole holder

I'm in a need a winter project to help pass the time... was curious if anyone on the board has made their own fishing pole holder and is willing to share pictures of their masterpiece.

I'm thinking it'd be nice to make a vertical design (for easy access in the garage during the season) as well as a horizontal design (for the basement ceiling during off season).

I know they can be bought pretty cheap but I like to make stuff myself (reduce, reuse recycle mindset).. so if you have any ideas, throw them out there...

On my fly in trip to Lac Hebert last Jun with Air Tamarac, their boats had 2 sets of rod holders (each set held 3 rods and reels). These vertical rod holders saved our rods and reels from boat rash. Their rod holders looked very similar to an Economy Rod Rack sold by Cabela's - see item number IK-021007 - presently on sale for $17. Looks like it would not be too difficult to make something similar.

Jay, thanks for the link... I have a bunch of crap lying around the house, scrap from other projects essentially as well as other stuff... Was trying to figure out a creative way to use this for home rod storage instead of keeping everything stored in my travel pvc tubes

I did make one for my basement out of scrap wood and hooks.  I took a board that's about 3" x 1/2" x 6' and drill 2" holes evenly spaced for the rod butt to fit in and mounted it about 5 inches from the outside wall from the floor joists.  I then mounted a 6' long board parallel about 4 feet from the first one with hooks in it to hold the rod up.  Works great, keeps the rods out of the way and safe from damage.

Alright... put together this for the garage to keep stuff out of the way and organized. Cost was $0 because I had the parts leftover from other projects..

 cool gotta build one for my camp. My boat is cluttered with rods. There was no room in the camper for them.

Here is what I did in my basement, works great, keeps the rods safe and doesn't take up any room.

Speaking of which I often wondered why outfitters don't make these for their patrons in the cabins... seems like a no brainer and something so easy and simple and could prevent a lot of accidental rod breaks and keep things more organized in the cabin or boats.

Dog, TBL Outpost had a nice portable floor one that worked really well for a few years, then someone apparently liked it a little too much and took it home with them. If it's not nailed down some people think stealing is OK. Over the years I've left quite a few things at the cabins that I thought would make stays better. Some are still there and others have gone the way of the pole holder. This year I bought a portable pole holder at the new Field and Stream Store ( really nice store!!) that I will take and bring home each trip. Oarin.

Gary, I agree with you. It is sad people steal crap but that is reality. I admire your willingness to haul that up and back... it just seems like something so simple an outfitter could do to make their patrons stay better is all.... I agree also the new F&S stores are real nice.
