Well its been almost a week since Jack and I returned from a week at Bush Country and its back to reality. Sometimes writing the trip report helps with the depression. We had another excellent time and hated to see the time pass so quickly. Things started with seeing a young Bull moose on the road on the way in. He trotted up the road a ways , then stopped and looked back and as we eased closer, he would take off again. This went on for a quarter of a mile and he finally turned into the Bush. After the 20 minute ride up the lake and getting settled in we began our fishing with the usual mid afternoon lake trout  and pike outing. Jack caught  a pike on his first cast  but that was all for the afternoon. The evening found us in Pickerel bay and the walleyes were very accommodating . We kept enough for Sundays dinner and returned several nice fish as well as smaller ones to the water. The walleye fishing continued to be steady most of the week with fish being caught in the bays as well as the main lake. No super large fish but a number over the slot limit of 21 and a few in the 25 " range. It has been many years since we tried to count the fish as we always get distracted and forget. Only really slow day came when the big storm blew through and shut them down for a while with some low pressure. We ate walleye four times and Lake trout once. Oh yea the trout. we normally dont catch the numbers that it seems the lake Kipawa fishermen do but they may generally be larger in Sasseginega. On Tuesday Jack set the hook on a trout and immediately parted with his favorite trout lure. He looked very dejected until I reminded him that he had given one to me a couple years ago and I have other "favorite" trout lures. 15 minutes later he  was into another one which turned out to be a 12 lb beauty. By friday afternoon it appeared that was to be the only trout for the week . As I was getting ready to put the motor in Neutral to wrap it up, I finally had a hit which turned out to be almost identical to Jacks. Over the years I have caught a few nice Muskies by comparison  and really believe that a trout this size takes it hands down in terms of fight and of course, taste. The pike were active all week and we caught some in the 30 inch range but no big boys. We did have a double on them one evening at dark while trolling for walleyes. Once again was happy to have the lip grabber trying to land two in the low light conditions.
The camp is in great shape and many new Yamaha motors make the fishing that much more of a pleasure. Norm and Chantell are great hosts and are doing everything they can to see that you go home satisfied. Any report for the trip to BCC wouldnt be complete with out a road report. Pretty much typical with the Maniwaki being the best part and Red pine chute the worst. The outfitters road had been  "graded" which helps to a point, and then exposes some volleyball size boulders in places . It took two hours not trying to set any speed records, which is just slightly faster than last year. The bugs ..... not as bad as they have been some other years but there were moments, mostly with mosquitos. Jacks Thermocells and the citronella candles seem to help. Also, its nice when the fish are active and you can troll to get away if necessary. The meals worked out well and Jack introduced a new feature of Cedar plank trout on the grill. That one will be repeated if he can continue to catch the trout part. Another great trip and looking forward to the next time. Sam
So many lures and so little time.

600 miles north

Nice report fishtaldark! Thanks for taking the time to share it with us. It's good to see the reports starting to trickle in. We all definitely know how it feels to have to pack back up and come home, and get back to the grind... Not fun!

Glad you had good time and a safe trip!
