Well with 49 days left (but who's counting?) we are having our annual planning meeting for the trek North to Watson Lake Cabins...Honestly, I think we could do this now with our eyes closed and based upon all the other trips, but this is all part of the buildup!  So we will get out our maps, lists, storys, snacks and beer and start planning our trip!  Anyone else do this every year or are we the odd ones?

@NortonJoe... you're not odd at all... I send out a monthly newsletter to the guys on our trip to maintain the excitement year round. Is this overkill, absofreakinglutely!... haha.. buuuuuuut I also don't mind putting it together as it's fun not only to generate planning discussion but also to make fun of ourselves.

In addition to our monthly newsletters, Flag holds the winter meetings in dec every year with SgtCrabby at his texas ranch. In coming years I can see Unc joining this meeting since they'll likely all be retired, bums! I kid... just jealous they can fish pretty much whenever they want. oh well, one day 20-25 years from now I'll have earned that luxury as well.

sounds like we're going up at the same time this year... we are 50 days out as well... where you headed?

One more cast...

We would start with 1st meeting in Jan.  Who is taking what, guys with new toys wants to try theirs, and we do not need 20 propane lights for 10 guys.  2nd meeting in April, mostly a social meeting but the trip will come to the top a few times.  Then 30 days before leaving the final meeting, mostly trip but social get some or lots of time ;D.  This year it is just Nancy and I going soooooo SHE tells me what I durn better take and I tell her YES DEAR!

Smile, every one will wonder what you have been up to.

Planning meetings, emails, texts, etc. are all part of the build up and add to the fun of the trip.  Agreed, after so many years we could all do this blind folded, but as the trip gets closer and the chatter builds, the excitement gets palpable.  Heck, me and Tbone will even send out modified songs and poems to the group for a laugh (maybe he'll post his Toddsspeare?).  Example below...

Twas 3 night before Kipawa and in the Ross home
The Blue was a flowin’ in a mug with some foam
Marcos thoughts were a thinkin’, his eyes were blood red
“Do I have enough jig bodies and enough 1/16 oz jig heads?”

T-Bone was a tossin’ awakened from sleep,
“Should I use night crawlers, or should I use leech?!”
He tossed and he turned and he thought all the while,
“Will I have a sour day, will I have stomach bile?”

Walt was sleeping soundly, his snores missed no beat
He knew he shopped wisely and got plenty of meat
He and the Captain would soon have much fun
All ending in stupor with a shout of “I’m done”..

Inky tossed and he turned, like a canoe about to tip
He’d lose no more equipment to big’ol Lac Kip
Cork handled fishing rods, reels light as a dime
But if there’s a problem, remember “Now’s a good time”

Sparky’s head was a ringing, as loud as a bell
“These boys they sound crazy, will this trip be heck?’
Fret not young fella, but take this word to the wise
The boys they can’t hurt you, not so the black flies…

So here it is early before our big flight,
Every fisherman exhausted from his or her plight
So a word to the wise, in this there’s no doubt
Beer got you into this, beer will get you out!
Beer got you into this, beer will get you out

WE CALL IT THE MAN MEETING

SgtCrabby

That isn't odd one bit.  We have a crewmember that's contemplating where to go next season, yes in 2015.

And don't think Dog works that hard every month on the newsletter he sends out, it's really sent about every other month.  The 'Winter meeting' in Texas as Dog calls it, is a two part meeting; Flagg comes here to thaw out (he saw a major ice storm this last year, about 5 inches) and we'll discuss it, then 'Unc" comes and we again discuss it.

Marco; I love the modified poem.  Now I want to hear (see) 'Toddsspeare'

Love it!  heck, I knew that this was not "odd" (how can it be when everyone is doin' the same thing!) The group showed up and before I got back with the refreshments they had the map through the woods spread out on the table!  We planned meals (which was fish heavy); discussed departure time and place; and settled on who was bringin what! @Dog, we are heading to Watson Lake Cabins to fish Watson Lake, Grassy Lake (Lac Aux Foins) and the Kipawa River.  We, of course, are all on countdown mode right now!
