Where to park vehicle and boat trailer?

Hello everyone,
Looking to go island camping in Kipawa again. We used to park at kipawa outpost, but their parking prices are outrageous now, charged us $20 per day last time for a small SUV, and tiny boat trailer, so we are looking for somewhere else.

Can you park at the laniel public boat launch for two nights? Or is that day parking only?

I know we park at a private lot in Kipawa for cheaper than that but we stay at Alwaki lodge.  I'm not sure if the good price is for everyone or for lodge guests.

No idea about up around Laniel, but I know there are a few options in the town of Kipawa.

$20 / day!?!?!? Sheesh....I would hope for that they detail the vehicle, change your oil, and rotate the tires for you.

At the main government dock in Kipawa, right across the street is a blue house with a Veranda... Mary usually sits on the veranda and she has a big yard - I have parked in her yard 12 years straight when I was staying at Alwaki.  I think she charges something around $28 or so per week (round up to $30) to park a truck with trailer there.

You're right Greg. Carl and Mary Mongrain owned Alwaki and the house across the road from the launch at least since the 70's. I first went there in the early 80's. Great folks. They were part of many of the best weeks of my life. When Carl was younger he used to guide Moose hunts as well. Last time I saw Carl and Mary was after my one only trip to Mackenzie camp just before it closed. The owner wasn't even there lol. I turned into town and visited them for a half hour. Glad I did. At that point his knees were so bad and he had gotten real heavy so he couldn't hardly walk. He just sat on his chair overlooking the lake all day. I don't think he lasted another year after that.

Good to hear Mary is still working the lot. It's been a few years now since I gave her a call and I'm way overdue. Just put a sticky note for tomorrow on my monitor. She's a sweetie for sure. From working the bar to marinating Lakers overnite in coolers with her special recipe for Carl to smoke in that gutted fridge he had out back. He used maple and birch. It was always one of the highlights of our trips for many years. We were even delivered hot foil wrapped trout fresh from the smoker sometimes. No Charge, can you imagine that? We just supplied the fish, usually not hard with 2 or 3 cabins for a day's worth of laker trolling.

Can't say enough about Mary she is an angel.  My 11 year old sons first trip and he get his finger smashed between the boat trailer and the truck.  She did a first rate good of cleaning it up and calming him down.  I think she would have had him stay for lunch if we didn't have a long drive.  She is one of the people in the area that makes the place special.
