Hot n Tots

I love to fish Hot n Tots on Kipawa.  I usually use gray scale or silver & black.  I was wondering what favorite colors some of you use on Kipawa?

I caught my largest walleye ever last July on Kipawa on a LiveTarget baitball.  Mine was the yearling crankbait - gold colour I believe, but I have green ones also and they worked last year!

Other than that, the 2nd most successful lure I have used which has brought the most walleye in the boat has been all-chrome crank baits.

The 3rd most successful lures have green & gold/silver stripes (looking like a perch).

I love the live target lures.  The thread fin shad in gold/silver are my favorite.  We have caught several 28" walleye on them in the Allegheny River.  I will have to try them on Kipawa.

I have yet to fish Kipawa, but I've fished similar lakes.  My go to Hot'N'Tots have been Firetiger and Perch (both the original and the newer ones).  Always worked well for me.    Thinfins are decent too.

I probably take 25 different colors of Hot-n-Tot to Kipawa each year. Some are even custom paint schemes, but the chartreuse color is a go to.

 I love the cotton cordell ripplin red fin. Shad color (white with a black top) or chrome with a blue top. Something about the action of these lures. Catches fish no matter where I used them.

Are all of these lures productive all day or just at dusk? And in how deep a water?

Last year the gold colored hot n' tot was my go to lure...caught fish all day long, both walleye and pike.  As a matter of fact, I used very little live bait last year, brought my limit home and we had three fish dinners in camp.  I have the following colors of hot 'n tot in my tackle box: gold, silver scale, blue/silver, pearl white, perch and fire tiger (probably a few others I can't remember too!).  They work all day, but better early morning and late afternoon/evening (all walleye fishing is usually better then).  Generally, I fish them in 10-20 FOW, trolling, because they run somewhere around 8-12 feet deep.  I have fished a lot of other crank baits too and they work nearly as well.  If I am targeting pike, I use little cleos, Johnson weedless spoons and daredevls.
