Hi everyone, first would like to introduce myself ,i'm 60 years old, father of 2 sons ,come from northern Ontario, moved in the Ottawa area
12 years ago, working for the city of Ottawa.I been fishing for over 40 yearsand really enjoy it.Was looking for a nice place to meet my
friend from up north for are first annual fishing trip, and Kipawa Lake seem to be the best spot both 5.5hrs drive. After reading all those
nice report I decided to book my first trip to kipawa Lake.Since we wanted to drive tothe cottage I decided to book @the Nord end of the
lake.We got there last Saturday late in the afternoon we decided to settle in and have a few beer, bbq and catch up with old friends.

Day2:Got up early and fish till 2pm,went back to the camp relax, have diner then back on the water till 9:30pm,went back in bugssssss
were bad.No fish,not even a bite.

Day3:Repeat Day 4 repeat Day 5 repeat,Day 6 we decided to pack up and back home very disapointed.

The water was 55 degree,we mostly fish the north end,McAdamBay,Sandy Point,Dorval Bayand Cast Creek.

T-Bone we jig,jig and drift, troll and troll ,cast and even slip bobbering.I know most of your guys fish at the other end of the lake,is the nord end fish out cause of all those cottages or we were to early, since we had a late spring. What did i do wrong any feed back is welcome. It's a very nice lake and still had a great time. :)

Chummy:  Glad to hear you had a good trip but sorry to hear you got skunked.  Sounds like your methods should have produced.  I would think your outfitter should have helped you out with the Kipawa learning curve and current hot spots and got you all on fish?

Hi Chumy77,

Here's my opinion - The north east arm of Lake Kipawa is more productive for walleye and lake trout than the north west arm (where you fished). While some haven't had satisfactory success at the north end (T-Bone), others have enjoyed enough success to return for many consecutive years. Take a look at the map showing locations of Lake Kipawa Outfitters to find outfitter options. I personally did 17 one week trips out of 3 Seasons Camp. Based on trip reports, lots of fishermen enjoy fishing success in the central and southern areas of the lake. Fishing Lake Kipawa for walleye is a learned experience regardless how many years of fishing experience one has.

We were at TBL when we learned that not all parts of the lake are equal...and thats a wholly different part of the lake than where Chum was and a long way from from the NE arm of 3S fishing area. Yeah...not surprised at the results tho...long learning curve on this lake. Still learning every trip after 20+ weeks over 20 years. Should be in to fish in bunches tho this time of year. Easy fishing.  Great lake and good opportunity for fishing success. Will PM you this week Chum.

Hi Chummy, sorry to read that your fishing success was so disappointing. We fish out of Alawki lodge and of my 5 trips there, fishing has always been good. With the help of forum members, were averaging 15-20 walleye each per day when we go in July. We are jigging with leeches and crawlers, early mornings and later in the day, mid days are tough. I plan on giving trolling a try this year with a worm harness.

Spend some time here and asking questions and I’m certain this group will get you catching fish.

Chummy,where were you at?

Chum,

Early fly hatch, large amounts of birch polon, and a low pressure cell didn’t help fishing this week

Fish are not schooled up yet again still spread out and deep

Next couple weeks should change things

Very fast presentation such as a fast troll seemed to work better then anything else which was strange for first week of June

Thanks guys for quick response ,I was at Chalet Diane in Laniel. First day I jig with from 5/6 FOW to 35/40 FOW around a few islands.Second day I mostly troll in 15FOW to 25FOW with worm harnesses and even try a few hot'n'tots, lol. At night I try the shallow bays. Yes a new lake is always a learning curve, thanks again guys....Chumy 77

Hi Chum , My cottage is at Baie Dorval on the lake side . Fishing is usually slow for walleye until mid June anyways ( Lake trout are always biting from ice out until July flatlining heavy spoons ). You were fishing in spots that can and do produce good numbers of fish . Just got back from there after fishing Friday and Saturday nights . I usually can tell if the fishing will be good by the amount of wildlife activity around my cottage. This weekend there were very few birds /chipmunks  at my bird feeder and no sign of the loons in the morning or at night and consequently the fishing sucked. We caught 3 lake trout jigging in 20 ft . This doesn't usually happen. I have stayed at Alwaki a few times before I bought my place and can say that if on a good night my wife and I caught 40 -45 fish there we will catch about 25-30 in the Laniel area ( peak bite is July to mid September ). Alwaki is right in the sweet spot of the lake .So a long answer to your question the Laniel NW arm area isn't fished out and in a few weeks will be just fine .
