Finally sitting down to write my report. The first week went well with plenty of time to fish and deal with a couple of contractors. The septic system went in as well as the sonotubes that are the foundation of my new camp.

3 trenches were dug including one almost to the lake. That allowed me to bury a water line to the lake. The sono tubes were places on footings at the bottom of the trenches and secured with boards to holt the tubes in place.

the septic was placed according to an engineers report forward of the camp and to the right, as your looking towards the lake. the finished product...

it turns out it was lucky I was forced to stay an extra week as I was able to oversee all the work. I am very happy with the work done by both contractors so far. The rest remains to be seen....
the first week went well fishing wise. The walleye were few and far inbetween. Jigging or trolling a few small ones here and there, I jigged up a few nice perch and several suckers and whitefish and a pike but few walleye. Two walleye suprised me one as I was haulin up my jig from the bottom at high speed, Just as i got the jig out of the water a walleye rocketed out of the lake appearantly chasing the jig. Same thing happened while trolling ripping in my lure a fish took it, I had pike do that to me in the past. But never a walleye, a new technique? I had no trouble catching pike all week tho even several over 5 libs. Much of the rest of the time I was helping the contractors or hiding from the bugs, they were horrific. I like to have a few beers at night with a fire looking at the stars but the bugs made that impossible except for a couple of windy nights.
on the thursday of the first week I drove to town to pick up supplies (beer, gas, groceries etc.) and my truck died in front of the kip canteen, and refused to restart. Long story short, truck ( a 2006 Jeep Liberty with a 2.5 litre turbo diesel) towed to a local diesel mechanic and by tuesday still no solution to be found. On the friday a friend and niebour,Brian. Who lives in North bay drove me to the shop where I dropped $500 and got it towed to the chrysler dealer in North Bay. I took the bus back to Toronto. Yesterday they told me I need a an Electronic control module or the main computer over a thou just for the part. Maybe it's time for a new truck lol as I spent a ton on it last year and a similar event last year left me with a bus ride home. C'est le vie. (thats life or trucks lol). Thank God for a couple of neigbours who are solid gold. One guy was going to town and picked me up some supplies and allowed me the use of his sattelite phone so i could call both my bosses (wife and mgr at work) to keep them appraised of my situation. They gave me both ice and gas out of their personal supply to keep me going. I keep lots of canned and dry food in the trailer for just such an event and that tided me over ok. Overall with the help iI recieved I could think of much worse places to be stranded it wasn't that bad an ordeal. I'll end this missive here and post a few pics here and on my photo bucket acct.

PG, good report even if the truck bit the dust.  Good batch of pictures.  I really enjoyed the pictures.  Keep them coming.

Smile, every one will wonder what you have been up to.

Lots of work, but it will be worth it !!!

600 miles north

Nice pics PG. Good luck with the rest of the camp. How long are they expecting it to take?

The perch was a cool catch, which gets me thinking. Back when I was young on Kipawa, like back 25-30 years ago I caught perch. I haven't so much as seen one in about that long. Do any of you other fishermen/woman catch many?

I hope you've seen the end of your troubles with the truck, but like you said, there isn't a better place to be stranded for an extra week!

     Cheers!

600 miles north is where I'd rather be!

Thanks for the report P.G.
Sorry to hear about your truck troubles.
Cottage area is looking great.

I had no idea Kipawa had perch that big.
We've only seen small ones in our years of fishing up there.
Did you clean any to see if they are wormy?
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Nothing like bugs in the air to provide incentive to get your new camp built...;)  Interesting pics.

Hi guys thank you for your kind comments. About the perch, I got an even bigger one as well. A local with a camp near mine says they can get almost a pound and a half there. I didn't keep them so I can't say about the worms. I think I will target them this summer just to see. The camp will have a large 28x10 foot screened in porch. I was trapped half the time in the camper or out on the boat.I also decided to install sattelite internet so I can communicate with the outside world in case this happens again. Debating sat tv as well I would rather not have it but I missed the stanley cup finals and I would like to catch a few Blue Jays games while I'm up there. I could stream both but the internet speed will probably be a slow one.

Joe,
great to see your camp making progress! Congratulations.
You know that GMC, chevy and toyota are all coming out with turbo diesel midsize pickup trucks in 2014/15.... I'm waiting for a diesel powered 4runner before I consider trading in one of our petro powered 4runners... great trucks. thanks for sharing pics....
One more cast...

Hi Nate ya I agree I wouldd rather drive a diesel then a gas engine. I used to commute 50 miles one way. Driving Jetta diesels saved me a ton of money in gas a very quick car it bought me a ton of speeding tickets too. Gonna hang onto that Jeep for another year then get a new diesel truck when I can choose from more then one type. I don't want a full size pick-up something like a pathfinder/4runner will suit me to a tee
