So here it is, the story of another great week at Alwaki.  We started out from Home shortly before 9 am Saturday morning and after a brief stop at Tim Horton's in Deep River we landed at Kipawa dock shortly after noon.  We got the boat off the trailer and fully loaded for our trip up to Alwaki but unfortunately stupidity and just being crazy busy left me stranded with fouled plugs in the first bay.  I limped over to Kipawa Cabins dock and changed them on there dock and met the owner and she was awesome and friendly, once changed up to Alwaki we went.  After having Roy and Sawyer meet us at the dock and carry all our heavy gear up to the cabin a storm ripped through 20 min later and the was the last rain until Friday afternoon for a short time. After the storm on Saturday the whole lake was covered in the pollen which I believe made it harder on the fishing. Fishing was slower this year than any of our past years.  I still caught a lot jigging and trolling but I probably trolled more this year than any of the past years.  Normally jigging would produce 30-40 fish per night but our best I think was 12 walleye.  We did catch better fish this year in the size dept. jigging and trolling but not the walleye #'s.  Still a great trip anyways.  Lake Trout were off as well this year with only 12 boated and I actually got skunked one day.  2 of the lakers were over the slot at 67 cm's and 1 just shy of the line, the rest were 2-3 lbs.  We had 4 meals while we were there and spent alot of quality times playing cards and other games with the kids so all in all another great year.  Not T-Bone quality reporting but hey there is only one T-bone.

Yes that was one crazy storm on the Saturday. It dumped a lot of rain quick.
Glad you had a great time with your kids despite the awful bug situation.
Thanks for the report.

Isn't that Tim Hortons in DR the busiest you've seen? You go in one door only to get in line past the next door outside...

Nice report Ozzy...sounds like a great trip even though it started with a bump and fishing was a little off that week. Glad to hear the family is well and all had a good time. We're going to miss you up there in a few weeks...a little Ozzy makes every trip a lot better.

And let's face it...the world is a better place with only one T-Bone. If there were another I'm confident the normal order would quickly slip into chaos and we'd all be hoping for a large asteroid to strike Earth and end it all. Well, maybe not that bad, but we're all originals which is what makes the world a better place, in my opinion.

Also I did forget about the bug situation and yes this is by far the worst year for then up there.  I'm sure another week of this hot weather will get rid of all the black flies and hopefully push the mosquitoes to normal night time hunting.  I will miss being there this year as well.  Next year I'm planning some extended weekend trips and 4 days at Canada day so here's hoping we can line up again.  The family got to good of a deal on a 12 day cruise next year so it is limiting my holidays.

Great report @Ozzy30 , sounds like your group had a good time, you have a very nice family. Any Intel you can slip me on Alwaki area Lakers or Eye's won't hurt my feelings  8) Just sayin  ;)

I have plans on shot gun blasting species, times and techniques this trip. I'm the guide "Utt-Oh" for a group of Newb's and semi newb's and I'm still a newb..... Good thing there's beer if all else fails. Hopefully we'll cross paths at Alwaki again Oz.

I can't really give you too much on the walleye front for guiding, I had to do alot of running this year to find the fish.  The normal shoals that I fish mostly by myself never even produced a fish.  1 morning they would be somewhere and the next at another location but did not catch them in bunches.  The most consistency in location came from trolling walleye and lakers, the walleye I caught trolling around the little island closest to Alwaki when heading up to Corbeau.  My son caught 1 that was just under the high slot line and we also caught them in 19.75" range there.  The lakers were up by corbeau island both sides, the keepers we caught were right beside Lindros' cottage and the one just under was on the other side of island.  Lakers were shallow though, the 2 keepers came out off the downrigger set at 28 feet and the fish later in week once water temp increased were 34 feet down.  The fish we marked betweek 50-70 feet deep weren't biting for us.  Not saying in 3 weeks they aren't eating everything that goes by them.  Hope that help's a bit

Great help Oz, thanks.

Can you give any details on the fouled plugs? If I recall, your boat is pretty new and modern 4 stroke. Fouled plugs "I thought" were a thing of times gone by/old 2stokes and old carbureted 4 strokes with bad main fuel adjustments or bad rings, burning oil. You can PM if you don't want the thread taken sideways.

The new plugs are rated for replacement every 3 years.  I used to change every year but the dealer said that it is not required.  So I had boat in this spring in for service had all fluids and impeller replaced and told them I would do my own plugs cause it's easy to do.  I got busy and forgot.  My boat is in it's 4th year and I do alot more trolling than everyone else with the same motor.  The first year I had over 100 hours on that motor, more trolling than running hard.  On my old motor I used to switch the plugs every year because of all the trolling.  There wasn't any indication on plugs of any other issues other than it was time to be changed and I forgot.
