Made another trip to Grindstone at Kipawa last week, weather was perfect. I usually go in the spring but have made a few fall trips the last few years. We had daytime temps in the 70's and nighttime temps in the 50's with very little wind. We had no bugs at all. Only problem was we also did not have many fish. We fished Butney, Shortcut, all the regular points and islands and had very little success. Went to Zec Restigo 1 day to pike fish and had my worst fishing day in the Zec since I have been going there in 1996. We stay with friends near Mungo Bay and they took us on a sightseeing trip one day since fishing was slow. Cruised up Hunter lake and went to canal bay. First time up that way, very cool trip. Weather great, fishing bad but managed a few and enough to still eat fresh walleye, water very low, but always a great trip to Kipawa.

Thanks for your trip report Rich. Sorry to read about the poor fishing.

Thanks for the report Rich. Sorry the fishing wasn't great, but sounds like the weather was spectacular, not to mention no bugs ;D It wasn't clear to me in your report, where did you stay for the week?
Walleye Rock!

Thanks for the post. Am I to understand you went from Mungo to Canal Bay? Where did you stop for gas each way?  ;D

Sorry to hear your fishing was less than stellar. I'd bet that area is HOT HOT HOT around opener.
Embrace every moment...you only get it once

T-Bone, yeah long trip. Thank heavens our friends have a larger boat with captain seats. Made trip much more comfy.

Hodgey1, we stay with friends Jacques and Paul Chenier (sp?). They are the road before Mungo, around 32 km marker if I remember correctly.

We all agreed a slow fishing trip to Kipawa is like breaking even after a trip to Vegas....you still win.

You will find late aug and beyond is unproductive on the easy end of the lake but productive on the west end especially lake trout
