Hi everyone,

So glad that I can post again on this site. My thanks to Greg and Fort Wisers.

As I understand the current gathering rules in Quebec, gatherings can be not larger than 10 people from not more than three households. Well, surprise, surprise. Our group of four fishermen, who have fished together for many years, live in four different households. I emailed the Quebec Federation of Outfitters to implore them to use their clout to encourage further relaxation to the rules for gatherings. Trying to contact the Quebec authorities at https://www.quebec.ca/sante/problemes-de-sante/a-z/coronavirus-2019/consignes-directives-covid19/ has been totally unfruitful. Regardless, we remain optimistic that things will work out in our favour and we'll get a chance to enjoy our 9 nights on the lake.

I heard today that our Prime Minister has opted to keep the Canada/United States border closed until 21 July for all except essential travelers. That's got to be a tough pill to swallow for our American colleagues. Sorry!

Hope everyone is well and that your families have remained safe.

Hi Jay -

Thanks for your update - and ya, concern and timing is the name of the game.  So many weird restrictions and miss-information going around and differences from province to province.

I hope the best for your group!!!!!!!

Covid math:  3 household not more than 10

Hodge math: 4 household and 4 total people = OK

Why don't you see if they have a cabin beside you available.  The 4 of you could still enjoy time together outside with distancing.

I wouldn't worry
If the numbers keep dropping, the restrictions will change by August

Hi Ozzy30,

While I appreciate your suggestion, the next nearest cabin is 4 miles away. I'm hopeful that the rules will be relaxed further. I had a telecon with Quebec's COVID 19 office on Sat past and they also suggested that the gathering rules would soon be relaxed further.

Hi John,

I believe you are correct John. Our scheduled departure date is 12 Aug for a 12-21 Aug trip. I trust you had a good trip.

I hope it all works out.  I'm already booked for 2 trips to Alwaki and could be more.  Throughout these times we all need to get out and do what we love to keep sane.  Good luck to you Jay and to everyone on site.

Well Jay...I can't imagine an ID / Address check being part of the check-in process. And if it's the only cabin within 4-miles, and the QPP aren't running random 'outpost cabin in the wilderness' home address checks...how would anyone know? Yeah...I know...it's not the honest route...but it's a plausible route. I'm a 'follow the law' kind of guy too...but when it comes to fishing in the North, I can see my way to bending the rules a bit. Not sure what the consequences would be if you got caught, but if the government would pursue such a harmless crime (you take the responsibility for your health), well, then I guess they have nothing better to worry about.

Embrace every moment...you only get it once

Hi Todd,

Subject to an incorrect interpretation on my part, we may be OK to go now. Latest statement re gatherings is:

"As of June 22, indoor gatherings of no more than 50 people will be allowed in some public places." And there is no mention of number of households.

Consequently, I'll start putting a meal plan together for our 9 nights (12-20 Aug) on the lake.

I certainly hope the US/Can border will open in time for you to do a trip north.

Glad the forum is back up ..
Our first trip to Kipawa (Alwaki) was postponed to August 9th..not sure if that is going to happen for us US folk,  but we are still hoping ( fingers crossed) . Tough but I can understand the reluctance in opening the border..and I wonder if a 14 day quarantine would be needed as well, which would be great but probably not a popular subject with the wife.
Have to say Brian of Alwaki lodge  has been great from the very earliest date he kept us informed and has been great in  helping us set up next years dates if this year falls apart .
Hope everyone one is healthy and staying safe.

Unfortunately, our group from Ohio decided to cancel for this year.  We were supposed to leave July 24 so a July 21 "reopening" was just too risky.  :( Additionally, some of the restrictions when some of us would return to the states made it undoable (currently I would have to quarantine for 2 weeks upon return).  So, here's looking forward to next year.

That is unfortunate Joe... maybe keep an eye out for reduced restrictions in late summer and plan an extra long-weekend trip.

Thoughts are with you.
