I really did not think we would be able to go this year with the provincial borders locked down. As soon as I heard they were open I booked a long weekend!

Tina and I got to Alwaki and finished unpacking around noon on Friday. I am not a big fan of the extreme summer heat we get now a days and Friday, Saturday and Sunday did not disappoint. It was crazy hot this weekend! We fished fished the last 1.5 hours before dark Friday

We tried trolling some breaks, that have produced in the past and managed 2 eaters, which were let go to fight another day.

3 hours Saturday morning and quite by 9:30. We didn't land anything. We found some fish but could not get them to bite and spent he rest of the day here! Saturday evening Tina stayed back and I went out for the last 2 hours
of the day. I managed 2 more eaters.

We spent our afternoon here, out of the sun and keeping our old girl Tango cool. She was having a hard time with the heat. Even swimming her was not cooling her off enough to for us to continue fishing.

We decided not to stay till Monday and came home on Sunday. Got one more eater and let it go.

Even though we did not enjoy the heat, it was still better than being home! Old marble eye really humbled us this weekend and showed us we got some learning to do!

We will have a top on the boat next year for sure!

Glad you could make it up this year.  The weather was extremely hot this weekend.  I'm hoping for nice weather next week just not extreme weather.

Nice to see you made it out.
Too bad about the heat.
I know what you mean.
We could not have lasted all day without the Bimini Top

I've never had a Bimini Top on a boat before. Do you have any thoughts about yours? What would you change if you had a chance?

I am thinking we want it tall enough to walk under without ducking but I wonder how much shade it would actually provide then.

Great trip report, no matter what.

Hope your puppy is ok!!  Hard for them in this heat.

Thanks for the report Greg...nice to read about current happenings at my favorite place on earth. And I think I recognize those locations...  ;)

Your pup looks like my black lab Jack...and he didn't like the heat either, but did whatever we were doing without complaint just to be close to us. I miss him.

Hope to see you up at Alwaki later this year...

T-Bone.

Thanks, Greg, it's great to have some reports coming in. The heat can really put a hurt on the trips. We've all been there. Glad you made it up and had some success.

I'm thinking something like this but may get it a little longer so I can get shade in the driver seat LOL! I'm just figuring out how I can style it so it will work with a Ulterra!

Sorry to hear about the heat Greg.... you should have gone swimming off the Alwaki dock instead and stayed another day in paradise.

Because I'm considering a top for my boat also, I am going to post a new topic under boat topics so as not to hi jack this thread. @Ozzy30@RHYBAK  and I think @Greg have tops they could comment on.
Walleye Rock!

Hodget I put up the top on my boat the moment I get the boat off the trailer and don't take it down until it's back on the trailer.  1 I just can't handle the sun beating down on me all day while I troll. When I was younger I could spend a whole weekend fishing bass tourneys and stand on the front deck 9 hours a day.  2. If weather blows up like it can quickly on kipawa it takes me minutes to zip in the sides and the back to fully enclose me in minutes.  But keeping the sun off me directly is the biggest bonus of having a roof.

Good report!  Thanks for sharing.

To bad the heat affected the trip,  if you're not accustomed to it, it can be brutal.
I don't have a Bimini top, but there have been times I wish I had one.
