Hope all are getting through this COVID unscathed . I have been lucky as we have been able to get to the cottage on a regular basis since the May 12 Quebec border opening. Bugs have been lighter than usual due to the heat .Sad to hear that Kipawa Bait has closed and the property is being put up for sale. I was getting leeches at Magnetawan on my way up but they are out and not getting any more in. Bait shop at Trout Lake in North Bay has good leeches and will be a spot to get them for the balance of the summer. I load up early August each year and am able to keep them alive through September in a couple of leech buckets by changing the water regularly with bottled water and feeding them a few chunks of lettuce .
The heat has affected the fish as they haven't been in their usual mid lake spots yet. Have had good luck the past few weeks slip bobbering close to shore .Catching good numbers of slot sized walleye and some really nice sized bass. Boated a 26" walleye on the weekend . Lost a monster at the side of the boat on Saturday night. When I set the hook I thought I was snagged then thought it might be a big pike . When I got it to the boat it rolled and had a look . It was easily over 10 pounds...biggest I have seen on the lake..I can't wait to get back up Friday to go after another one..lol...To our American friends keep the faith and you will be back sometime...Fishing will be even better next year as there are fewer boats on the lake than normal this year..Stay safe !!

NICE! I am convinced there are some ERIE sized eyes in this lake! I pulled a 31" on a jig and plastic last July!

I really need to get comfortable fishing that close shore!
