We all hope you're right @chiaro but as @T-Bone points out there are glaring oddities (here in Canada) in some of the restrictions that no one would ever, in their right mind, believe contribute to covid spread in any meaningful way. Especially in comparison to allowing covid positive individuals enter the country from India.

Couple this with the fact that we continue to be in the strictest lockdown measures since the pandemic started (14 months ago) yet we are around 40% vaccinated is peculiar. Shouldn't restrictions be easing the more we vaccinate? Rumors now of an extension to June 2nd....

Hi All:

I took Rhybak's  8) Cool Face emoji (not smiley Face), as a "Thumbs Up" to BigChief's prior post ending with "so there is still hope". I'm confident that Rhybak and all Canadian Members on this board are NOT HAPPY that our US members weren't able to make their trips last year & hope "There is Still Hope" this year.

Stay Safe All.

As of yesterday 6.2 M were vaccinated in Ont. which is 50 % of the population in our province. We are approaching a vaccination rate equal to certain US states. Vaccinations work, be patriotic and get your jab. Do it for your country.

Many initially criticized the stay at home order but it's done it's job. Restrictions should be easing by the end of the month. At some point you have to feed the dog a bone.

I do agree certain restrictions have little effect. Ford should have listened to science. As to India being the root of our plight, sure that plays a roll but the fact of the matter is that genetic testing shows that most of the transmission that came into Canada came from the US. Note that you have been triggered, and ask yourself why would someone do that? It's misinformation. I have no issue with severe limits on international travel until everyone has had a chance to get two shots.

Hi @chiaro , if you reread my post you will notice I wasn't implying that those flights were the 'root of our plight' of covid transmission in Canada, but rather an odd oversight when considering such granular closures as boat launches, kids parks, snowmobiling, golfing and other outdoor activities etc.

All good.

T-Bird, it's a cool face because he edited away the smiley face, but I'm sure you're right about our Canadian members. I over reacted and just should have just let it go. I'm still keeping positive thought about this year.

My error...sorry!

I am feeling more confident than ever, that at least one of my two scheduled trips to Kipawa will happen!

  • End of July
  • The beginning of September

As for @RHYBAK , I am certain he meant no harm, he's a good soul. Having your true intentions come across in type and emoji's is very difficult if not impossible. I have made great friendships here and cant wait to see you all again soon. I also can't wait to post another trip report yet this year and hope that @Oarin can do the same.

Walleye Rock!

RHYBAK

I do apologize if my reply came across that way.

I guess there is a lot of stress built up among the U.S. members for not being able to vacation for two years straight.

I guess I'm more of a realist and look at reality.
My thought are more towards getting this virus under control that trying to figure out a way to vacation in another country.
Borders are closed to prevent the spread of this virus, not to screw up somebodies fishing plans.

Sure, numbers are dropping, vaccines have been given out.
the virus is still here.

Two more shutdowns till Christmas.

Thanks RHYBAK. I over reacted. Like you say, the stress is getting to us. We haven't been able to see our grand daughters in more than a year. Sorry for my comment. Never should have done it.

LOL...I thought I was a pessimist!! You can't ignore the facts.

Ontario cases have been chopped in half over the last two days. All things hospital related are going down. Daily current vaccination rates here in Ontario are exceeding every state. People really want to get vaccinated. We are coming up to levels of the total percentage of the population vaccinated to some states. We will likely exceed most state final vaccination rates, we don't have a core part of the population that is vaccine avoidant.

The border will open and not shut down again. Just look what is happening in the states. Even with a good percentage of the population basically not playing along your numbers continue to fall. There will be no reason to keep the borders closed. I think if you have an August or Sept trip planned you're going this year. July wouldn't surprise me. These vaccines are that good but what did you expect them to do?

don't know where your getting your numbers
Saturday=2864
Sunday=3216
Monday=2716
Tuesday = 2073
today=2320

the only difference is the positivity rate. today was 5% where the last few days it was around 8.5%

We peaked mid April at 4800 so the last two days are LESS then half of that.

RHYBAK

O.K.
I guess it's just the way you worded it" cut in half in the last two days"

Don’t apologize Oarin. We should be a little careful how we put things, and show some sensitivity.
