Ontario Premier Doug Ford's government announced Thursday that it's putting the entire province under new restrictions for 28 days. The measure comes into effect as of 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, the province said in a news release, and will be in place for at least four weeks.

It's always darkest before the dawn! In Ontario in many regions jabs are now being booked for those 55 years and over. That opened up yesterday and I booked.

Got my 1st moderna shot 28 March, 2nd one scheduled for 26 April (I'm 42 with some underlying health risks and was on the waiting list for 3 months since late December)
wifey is under 40 and has her first Pfizer shot on Monday.
Pretty much all my coworkers, friends and family has either been vaccinated or have an appointment to get vaccinated across the USA that I talk to....

If I was a Canadian I would consider being a vaccine tourist and traveling to the USA to get vaccinated (Staying long enough and renting an Air BNb for a month in a state like Florida that requires no residency requirement to get it).

There is going to shortly be more supply in the USA than people willing to get it so more states will open it up to anyone without an appointment. I predict this will happen by early May if not before. Some states are already doing drive up, no appt vaccinations.

Some Canadians have done that, retirees have made the trek down. Right now those 50 and up and can get a jab. If you're younger you're probably working or have kids so going to the states isn't an option for most.

I've been talking to lodge owners and most are full steam ahead. Most are opening at their regular time. They are not sure when their American customers can get there, the ministry is positive about the border opening at some point this summer and that lodges can stay open. Because of the variants no one can give a solid prediction.

Heading out just after lunch today to get my First injection with the Pfizer vaccine.
Countdown is on for our trip to Smithbay now at 74 days.

Wife and I are getting our first shot this Wednesday

I got my 2nd Pfizer shot on Thursday...so now fully vaccinated...fully-protected in about 10-days. I will say my 2nd came with some after-effects...nothing on first dose. Woke up about 12-hours after getting the shot with fever, aches, headache, very fatigued. That lasted for about 36-hours and washed away pretty quickly. Felt mostly normal yesterday...played 18-holes no problem.

Good luck to all up to get their shot next!!! Now if they would only open that border...  >:(

The way our numbers are going, I wouldn't hold your breathe on the borders opening up any time soon

I'm starting to think the borders will never open for tourism with the current thinking about this virus. If we "wait" for numbers to be acceptable (totally subjective number...depends on who you ask) we may as well forget coming up for the next...pick a time frame...2 years...5 years...10 years. If anyone believes this thing is going to go away and the threat will ever be negligible again, we're all fooling ourselves. And save the 'herd immunity' argument...that's harder to secure than a winning lotto ticket.

And in what I see, the CDN numbers per 100K of population are actually quite low...even now. A 3.8% positivity rate is considered low here in US. I'm not a doctor or a statistician, but they seem low compared to Ohio's numbers.

I heard something the other day that would have drawn my shock 2-months ago, but now I believe may have to be the case if we ever expect to get back to the way it was. At some point, you just have to move forward. Trying to outrun variants or predict what shot will work now versus later is like chasing a sunset running to the west...you will never catch it...no matter how hard you try.

As for Vax Passports, why not? You can't travel to other parts of the world without getting certain vaccines...why is this different? Invasion of privacy or whatever excuse is being used? Gimme a break. That flows from the mouths of simpletons that can't wait to check their Twitter feed, Facebook whatever, and LinkedIn messages....but worry about their privacy for this.

Yeah...if you can't tell, I'm getting salty about all this. Can't live our lives in fear as that's not living at all.

Well Todd

Last week Ontario was at about 4 % positivity rate on their test
The last few days it's jumping up slowly from 6 to 7 and today it's 7.7%
It's not getting better.

The whole idea of closed borders is to stop/ prevent the importation/ exportation of this virus.
It's not to stop tourism and even though I tried very hard, it's not intended to prevent Kipawa fishermen from coming over to fish.
It's not personal.
It's for the good of humanity.

A vaccine passport might be good to wipe yourself after you go to the washroom but it still won't prevent cross border transmission.

Cross border transmission? Is anyone really worried about that anymore? Maybe if Canada (or anywhere) had zero cases if would be a legitimate position. My only thought on that would be "too late". It's here, it's there, it's everywhere.

So what are the talking heads on TV or within the government trying to stop now? The probability a person dying in a car accident annually in the US is far more than double that of COVID. If you're driving on the 401 around Toronto it's probably 10x more probable to die from a car accident than COVID. Maybe we should all stop driving until there are no more accidents.

I understand the fear, but if you normalize it compared to other 'understood' ways one can die it's really fractional. Winners in this....and there are certainly many...big pharma and politicians. Make no mistake.

I'm going to stop now because this will become like a broken record stuck on a line.

You and I do not make these decisions yet we still have to live by them no matter what idea's we might have, they are not in our hands.
All I know is that at the moment, I am living on the right side of the border.

If you're worried about fishing on Lake Kipawa...yes.

Just read an article that 'maybe' by August they will be "in a position" open the border. Translated, they have no idea...

Don't you worry Mr. Rhybak...once they do I'm calling you to ask for directions to your house...I'll be there within 48-hours.  ;)

Hoping, as we all are, that things clear up and the border opens later this summer. Until then, stay safe, everyone. Maybe we could split that list w/ you, T-Bone, and meet at Rhybak's on the way up?

I want to be included in on the road trip to @RHYBAK ’s ! I will bring the Bourbon and the pizza.

I still believe I will be fishing at Kipawa at some point in 2021.
