We are approaching the total vaccinations given equal to 1/2 the population. Vaccinations continue to ramp up and yesterday we hit a new high at 160000 vaccinations given a day which is more then 1% of the population. That means we will be approaching herd immunity in 3 weeks which is the 2nd week of June.

Our seven day moving average of total daily infections is in the low 2000s which is less then half from our peak total.

Yes things are improving somewhat here in Canada....that being said, less than 4% of the population has been fully vaccinated as of yesterday in Canada and the USA is getting up close to 50%...IMO that is sad ! If you look at the charts of percentages vaccinated, Canada is way behind miserably ! Maybe if our PM Trudeau had procured enough vaccines sooner with Pfizer and Moderna instead of trying to procure from China (which fell through) we wouldn't be in this mess. Still in lockdown here in Ontario and questionable if our trip to Kipawa the first week of June will be happening or not. This site gives some good stats. https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

Remember that the US would not allow shipment of those vaccines from US plants, we got those doses late from the EU. We are only behind the US and UK but they hoarded and a very few other countries like Israel. Vaccination wise we are in the middle of the pack.

The science indicates that one dose is enough to impact transmission rates. In a sense we are a giant science experiment

The province is opening up to bookings to everyone 30 and up this week. Everyone else the following week.

Also Doug Ford said summer Camps will be opening for July 2nd. The border opening can't be too far behind.

The Kipawa Trip is 'Summer Camp' for my group...I wonder if I can convince them the definition qualifies....  ::)

I remain cautiously optimistic for September, but believe July would be unlikely...though you just never know....

We should do a friendly pool for opening border date. I will pick July 1st. :)

I hope sooner but I'm thinking September at earliest.

One thing to keep in mind with this border opening.
The border closures are not based on the Ontario COVID statistics.
The border closures are based on CANADA as a whole.
Just because Ontario gets better , it doesn't govern the opening of our borders.

I know everybody wants to think positive but there is a bigger picture here to look at.
I don't want to be Negative Nancy but think reality .
Stop spreading hope .
One day at a time.
what will be, will be and if and when it happens, it will happen.

This topic is really starting to get old.
Is there nothing else to talk about???????

I never considered Nancy to be negative...you, on the other hand...  :o. And what else it there to talk about on a bi-national fishing forum that has a fair portion of it's members locked-out of the primary header topic?

Agreed the 'opening' is a country-level decision...no idea when the border will open.

I still contend this...the approach to this in Canada is much different than in U.S. It seems whenever there is handful of cases there, people (at least as it's characterized in the media) go into "freak out" mode and start running for the bunker....or are ordered to the bunker. At least it appears that's the governments reaction. COVID clearly isn't a good thing to get, but it's not a death sentence necessarily either.

The people in the U.S. that were getting it / spreading it in the 3rd wave were the non-maskers, "I'll do what I want...no government will take my freedom" (even though they're the body that provides their freedom), young partiers that completely ignored all suggestions for masks/distancing, and so on. Eventually, the "darkest days" both got some people in line and infected the doubters. Then, the vaccines hit and things are getting better every day.

It's been asked before; why are Texas and Florida (which basically have been doing whatever they want for many weeks now) still getting "better"? Personally, lockdowns and closing things doesn't work. Didn't work here....probably won't work there.

Wear a mask. Avoid those who think they're invincible and won't get vaccinated. And get yourself vaccinated. It's really that simple.

The one thing that bothers me most about all this on the Canada side...most everything I read refers to the vaccine shot "the jab". It's a shot. Are they trying to be cute when writing about a pandemic? (I know...small point...but it still drives me nuts!).

Side Question: Did Canada ever shut-down business offices and require people that work in offices to work from home / remote? I dont' ever recall reading about it. That was Step 1A here...and is still the rule in most business that I know and deal with. Chase Bank has an office complex near me that contains over 11K people. It's been 99% vacant for over 14-months now.

Yes, offices were closed and most still are.
There are a lot of people working remotely from home where possible.

Banks are open.
Fabrication plants are open.
Stores are closed
restaurants and bars are closed.
Golf courses are closed
Gyms are closed
You get the picture

Now this is Ontario. No idea what is going on in other provinces.
I don't have time to worry about them.
My only worry now is if and when the Quebec border will reopen

Hopefully something will change June 2.

You forgot...fishing lodges are also closed-off to a good portion of their market...and have been running at fractional census since the beginning. That didn't seem to change anything, so why continue?

Keep all that other BS closed for all I care (though some of it is laughable if the GOVT thinks that's going to have any meaningful effect on whether the rates go up or down)...just open up the fishing lodges...and the borders...  ;)
