If I were the Prime Minister and I wanted to do a gradual opening I would use US fishermen as a test balloon. You would make them write out a plan where they don't overnight anywhere but the lodge on the way in or out. You would offer no American plan indoors and have all the other protocol in place. Allow no one from different households in the same cabin and make lodge owners offer up their plan for protocol use. This is what Kesagami lodge is doing now for Canadians. It does leave open the possibility that Americans can get seriously sick in Canada but with double vaxes that would be a very low number. It would also mean delay at the border. Perhaps also require proof of health insurance. The problem being if you open it up for one segment all the other segments in the tourism industry want allowances also.

Here is a problem no one is thinking about, Canadians wanting into the US for vacations. :)

If I were the PM of Canada the last thing I'd be thinking about is fisherman and their pursuit of "the big one".

I don't know...I've stopped worrying about this. When the border opens, I'll go. Until then, golf it is...

Oh you’re not worrying about their experience, what you’d be interested in is a controlled setting with very limited contact with Canadians. What would be better then a remote lodge?

How about we start posting fishing reports and stop speculating.

Hi all,

Love the polite banter, but I see this topic as going on and on unnecessarily and I don't want it to turn into something more serious, which brings me to the point of the post.  Lets get back to fishing, discussing fishing, trip reports (I am guilty, I haven't written mine after returning a week ago).

As much as I want to see the border open, for the purpose of my american friends to hopefully enjoy my favourite place on earth, Kipawa lake (and it's fishing), the 5 pages of comments associated to this thread is, what others have pointed out, speculation and it is what it is... until further notice.

I hope everyone sees it the same way, lets close this thread down and get back to fishing topics... me, I will try to write my trip report - but something happened out of my trip... I haven't lake trout trolled in 2 years and I LOVED it more than ever (we caught our 3 largest walleye of the trip on lake trout gear, trolling at 100 feet deep and I caught a big pike also).  I loved it so much that I went out and bought 2 new trolling rods and 2 new line counter big reels for the lead core line - plus 4 new gang trolls and a dozen new spoons (all different sizes and all different colours).  I can't wait to get back up there and try out the new gear.

Tight lines my fishing friends... and remember, friends don't let friends talk about politics on fishing forums  ;D

Couldn't agree more Greg, I stayed out of it but there sure was a couple of comments I felt like responding to. I'm so sick of covid and the politics that goes with it. Good call

Agreed…………….. No good comes from any of it, we are all powerless and must wait it out till its over.
Walleye Rock!

Tune in to the thread, or not. Reply, or not. A very relevant thread. It appears this forum is supported by mostly American members….who are waiting on pins and needles for the “border opening”. Some very helpful links have been posted. Tune in or not……
Here’s hoping the border opening still happens in July. Good vibes only……

My suggestion is to lock this thread.
Enough is enough.

All talk right now is speculation, hearsay and peoples opinions.

All this is doing is Building hopes with our U.S. counterparts and then dropping them like a rock the day our governments decide to extend the border closing.
16 months of constant speculation is enough

I say  lock this topic and others like it.

Lets get back to fishing

There are several categories…”general discussion” is the one this thread is in…approximately. One could stick to “fishing discussion” or “trip reports”.
It’s entertaining and informative to see all the latest on this item. Once border is open, I look forward to reading comments about it…will that be censored too?

RHYBAK

censored is a very harsh word
