I built a new console for my boat this year. Most tiller guys probably won't like this idea. I have always thought when Lund did this in the early days it was a brilliant idea.

I could not stand the cheap plastic console Alumacraft installed, screws mostly all stripped the first time I pulled the panel to install a new gauge. Also, I blame covid boredom for this project LOL!

I am putting this in front of the drivers seat, since I spend most of my time searching and trolling. For when we get on fish, we plan to add a third graph that we can move from the bow to the port side for when
we are sitting on fish. Since 1/2 this boat is casting deck I find the mid section a little small for a tiller, believe it or not moving this console to in front of me has really opened the boat up!

Plus, if I don't like it, I can always move it back :)

I can't decide to run the wires up from the side or through the top for the graphs.

So here is my all aluminum console. The back will have a big hatch to get at the wiring, storage etc. The front has a small glove box. I also plan to add a storage drawer on the side. I will probably do that next winter.

I like the through the top, cleaner looking usually.  Can you transfer the wiring from the old location to this one while hiding all the wires?  I like a clean look in the boat.

Hi Oz,

Yup, I have all the panel wires re-run to the battery box behind the driver and up the side rod locker, as well as all the transducer and graph power cables.

Originally I mounted my fuse panel for everything in the back battery box, but now I'm mounting the panel in this console with the hub etc. Should be much
cleaner and easier to get at. I did my best to match the carpet , could not get the same carpet in Canada without ordering it from the states.

I'm leaning through the top as well.

Looks good, what is the screen built into the console for?

GregL

That is for my engine gauges like rpm, fuel, temp etc over a NEMA 2K connection.

SIMRAD really nailed the user interface , it's fully customizable. So much better than Hummingbird.

Ya, I'm a sucker for gadgets LOL!

That looks good and also functional.
I like it!

I haven't finished the installation because I have been trying to find some appropriate grommets for running the wires through the various aluminum walls I need pass through.

I've ordered a few cheap grommet packs through amazon, they work great for single walls but I have a few places that are double walls.

Also, I want to protect my graph wires passing through the aluminum top. I'm using those little rectangle wire covers which don't provide protection for the edge of the hole.

I think I found the perfect solution!

It is called Sugru and Canadian Tire sells it! The search is over! I can finish this project now haha!

"Apart from being user-friendly, Sugru is waterproof, weather-proof, saltwater resistant, fade resistant and dishwasher-safe. It has a thermal insulating quality with a service temperature ranging from -60 to 180°C (-140 to 356°F)"

Interesting, I've never seen them before let me know how they work.  When are you in at Alwaki this year?  If we are there the same time I'd really like to look at new setup.

GregL

Hi Oz!

I am there for sure the first week of September, I don't care what the border is doing!!

We are going to try for the August long weekend but not sure yet, our Retriever Club may hold a field trial so I will have to be there
for that if we do.

I'm itching! I haven't even had time to put my boat in the water yet this year.. boy who would have thought a 3rd dog.. adds this much work! HAHAHA!
