May 9th to commemorate my sister's 68th birthday.

Seems April 30th is the winner.
Congrats @michelle we will be in touch early next week about a prize.....

Yay! That's pretty unexpected. The way the weather was going I thought would be much later! Hoping to start our holidays and drive in on May 9 and that we can drive into our camp road by then. Supposed to get more rain tonight, fingers crossed the Maniwaki and Bearn are passable by then. I sure hope so. It's been a long winter!

The lake skimmed over at night a few times since April 30 - we have had a few -5 mornings and a skim of ice - melted off through the am each time.

But Ice was out on April 30, you could boat anywhere in the lake  - except perhaps very Northern tip , not sure never went there.

I would still say ice out was April 30 this year

Wow
you're persistent.
I looked on the earth satellite shot and there was still ice in the northern half of the late.
I'd say you were wrong

Not to add fuel to the fire but for the last two years we have relied on locals making the call. But i do know we've also used satellite images as a method when local advice wasn't avail.
So I guess the real question is what method are we using as the benchmark to make the call? Locals, satellite? Other?

I'll let you guys duke it out, I'm personally fine with what ever the majority thinks is best. I was just hoping to get a prize out to the lucky winner......

Anyone else care to chime in?
Or we just drop it entirely this year and agree there is no agreed upon official date for 2025 and thus no prize.
Just trying to keep things light and fun....

The intent of this thread is to provide forum fodder during the winter. Who cares when the ice "actually" went off? Really. It was sometime before today and after April 1st...there.

Opener is on Friday...why isn't anyone talking about that?

With all this out of the way, let's again congratulate @michelle for guessing the correct date lol.
We'll reach out to you early next week and arrange a prize.

Have a great season everyone...
