Fort Wisers

Good day KFF patrons,
I'm posting here to indicate that I no longer have the bandwidth to continue on dealing with the administrative duties of KFF.
Since Chris (@Hodgey1), Greg (@Greg) and myself took on the admin roles from Nancy a few years ago, we have made many changes and improvements (at least we hope users see them as improvements) in the background to update functionality and improve security of the site.
While it has been fun building upon what Nancy created, it has not always been easy and at times requires a fair bit of time (often time sensitive) and the hosting costs are borne from our pockets as ad revenue is very minimal due to our limited site traffic.

While I can't speak for Chris and Greg, I can say that at my personal point in life (married, career, two teenage girls, country home, cabin etc etc) I have no time at this stage to continue the work here at KFF.
My hit and miss availability has caused the occasional issue with approving new members which can cause a degradation of the overall impression of the site to users.
As a result, we are hoping some keen volunteers would step up so we can hand off the torch, otherwise we will have little choice but to shut down KFF (the site hosting is renewed each April).

Please PM Chris and / or myself if this sounds like something you'd like to get involved in or unsure but want to find out what to expect.
I believe I can personally hang on for one more month, but that's about it.

@Fort Wisers I can possibly help. I am up Kipawa til June 28th. Can we link up to discuss the first week of July?

Hey @BigChief thanks for reaching out, a chat in early July sounds great!

Hi everyone,
Can't help but notice that other then a note from Big Chief there's been zero reaction to this post.

What happened folks? Why has there been such a downturn in interest in our forum?
Did we do something wrong as an admin team?
Are there things we could do to improve the experience?
Or has KFF simply run it's course?

Any feedback on what people are thinking would be greatly appreciated.....

RHYBAK

I think it's run it's course.
Questions are the same.
Reports are repetitive.
Nothing new and exciting for the old members.

That is my opinion
Don't shoot me down for it.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Posting does seem to have slowed down.  I think there must have been more trips than we see reports.  Its a shame...

I have typically been a somewhat frequent browser and infrequent with posts and comments.
I do think it may well have run its course.

I have Polaroids from 1979 and early 80s when I started going.  Not so much from mid 80s on.
Have a slew of pics on digital camera, phone, and social media from 2009 and next few years when started taking my son up.
Last month on first trip this year I think I took one photo.  And it was of a marked up map done in camp.

I never feel less excited to go and doubt you guys do.
But it is really the same trip time after time with limited amount of variables.

Fishing was good, bad, or ok.
Weather was good, hot, rainy, etc.
Border traffic was good, bad, or ok.
Bugs were bad, manageable, not many.
Trip was in May, June, July, etc.

Sounds like we're all getting old! LOL thanks for the insights folks....

So don't get me wrong, I enjoy going back and reading old reports and posts especially during the grey winter days. I'd love to see the forum remain but understand the time commitment problem.

FYI folks, there is some behind the scenes work being done that might potentially see the forum continue, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but didn't want to leave things completely in the dark.

If there is much interest in keeping the forum alive, speak now or forever hold your peace, knowing the forum still holds value for many (even if just reading old posts) will go a long way.....

For now, we will re-allow new member enrolment.....

Though I am not a frequent contributor, more of an asking questions type thing.

I absolutely love browsing the comments and seeing the trip reports.

I would hate to see it go.

I do not post very often, but sure enjoy some of the information and pictures.  Last winters ice watch was a fun distraction while waiting for spring.  Would hope that we can keep going with this forum.  I did join Reddit for a couple of days, but didn't find it very easy to navigate and have since deleted the app.  I understand that some of the guys who have been members for a long time find that not a lot of new information is discussed, but the new people have the same questions as they likely had back then.  Thank you for the work in the background.

This will be my fourth year coming to Kipawa.  Having been to a number of other lakes in Ontario, I have come to like coming to this destination.  The fishing has been good at times, now so all the time.  This forum has provided so much information to me that its existence has greatly helped my trips here.
I don't post a lot as I primarily fish with a fly rod and I feel like an an oddity.  However, I have read many posts and try to follow what is going on.
I too, feel the loss of the this forum would be a loss.

I'd be interested in how you fish with a fly rod on Kipawa and what you target.  Is it mainly the bass, or walleye too?  I'd imagine the bass must be a riot on a fly rod.
