Just remembered the news earlier this spring about the new IGA being constructed in Letang. I was surprised at the size (20K square feet) versus the 6K of the Provigo. Should be a nice store.

Crunchie (or anyone else) have an update? I believe it was slated to be opened by 'late fall'.

With a little over 200 days to go until our trip, the 1/2 way mark is approaching and that's always time to start thinking about where we'll stay overnight when going in. We've stayed in North Bay the past couple years simply due to the fact there was no grocery store in Temiscaming. All that's changed now, I guess...

Thanks for the update....I hope everyone is well...

Just spoke to a friend from Temiscaming, he believes it will be soon, first week of December. Thank goodness, it was a long haul there for the townspeople. I missed popping in there  on my way by. Looks very nice too!

Indeed the store is coming nicely, the parking is all paved with the vehicle spacing lines.  They're working on, among other things, the access entrance from Montée Letang, which for those not familiar with, is the bypass road.    They had a fence there since the beginning and now the fence is down, can't wait.  It's the best news since our recreation center was built.  And yes, opening date is sometime early December.
The whole construction site had a fence all around it and that is down now too.

This is good news for Temig. Happy to hear it and will have to stop and check it out whether we stay in Temiscaming or not in 2015. We're considering breaking up the drive more and stopping in bracebridge.

Bad call in my opinion.
Best to drive the extra 2-3 hours.
Have a good sleep locally .
You don't need another 2-3 hour drive on Saturday morning ;) ;)

And you get to wake up to all of these; bait and tackle shop, gas, restaurants, and now a new grocery  store, doesn't get any better :) and all within a few hundred yards.

We've done it both ways and settled on getting most of the way there on Day 1...just makes for a cleaner, more relaxed start at the front-end of the trip. We've stayed in Toronto, Orillia, North Bay...etc. But I'd say our preference would be to stay in Temiscaming as we will likely do this year.

The only problem with Temiscaming is the limited choice of accommodations. My position on the Auberge is well documented on the other Board.

If I may, another option would be Auberge Temrose, it's in the center of town right across from the, hic, liquor   ;D store.  There are, I believe, 6 or 8 rooms.  As stated, these are owned by the adjacent restaurant thus allowing you to park your rigs in the somewhat large lot across the street from the rooms.  These rooms are almost new, 3 years old max.   Just another option.

Whoooo, our new IGA grocery store is now opened, will be going this afternoon to do some snooping, lol.

Nice.

And thanks Crunchie on the Temrose accommodations tip; I've checked them out before and they do seem pretty nice. If we stay in Temiscaming this year we'll likely book there as I think even the rag-tag bunch of fools I travel with can stumble home across the street from too many Bleues at the Temrose restaurant.

Hope everyone is well...happy holidays.

I feel I must report on our town's new IGA.  It is of course a beautiful store.  The fruits and vegetables are very fresh and seem to last.  It is well laid out with 3 regular cash registers and 2 at the  courtesy desk just next to the checkouts (which includes an express lane).  Ample parking with a few areas to store your carts outside.  Ironically, Tembec, the main industry in our town went on strike at about the same time the grocery store opened, however the strike only lasted 2 weeks.

All in all, our town is back to normal with a brand new grocery store, everybody has large smiles while shopping.  I've heard of people going to the store every day instead of buying all in the same trip just to meet people and browse the store.  All can be seen with big grins, ahhh, the joy of living in a small town, lol........
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year everyone

Crunchie

Thanks for the update on the store.  What time in the morning do they open? ( in the summer)

John
Smile, every one will wonder what you have been up to.

Lol, just got back from the store.  I'll ask the manager next time.

Temiscaming IGA hours

Anyone know if the IGA sells wine and beer? Likely a dumb question for the locals on here but I'm not familiar with the quebec liquor sale laws...

Hi Nate:

I telephoned the new IGA in Témiscaming this afternoon at 819-627-1711. Hours are 8 AM to 9 PM 7 days a week. And of course, the store will sell beer and wine. I asked about the availability of an online flyer to check out prices. I believe they are hoping to have online flyers available by summer.
