We're just over 22-days to go and can't wait; planning is in full-swing with only menu stuff being hashed out now. I still have one more trip before we go (Santa Fe, NM), but it's only a 3-day'er and we leave for Kipawa a mere 9-hours after I land back here in Columbus.

With that said, we're all jacked-up. But I know there's got to be at least a few groups out there that are heading-up for opener who are even more jacked-up than we are right now.

Chime-in! Let us know where you're going, and what you're expecting to find when you get there...

We're heading to an uncharted part of the lake (for us, anyway...even though I found the large bathy map in my basement and am having it laminated now). We'll be down on Lac Grindstone...not too-too far from Puckster's camp, I'd bet. Though, from what we understand, we shouldn't have to travel too far to get into those pesky 'eyes...maybe no further than the dock! That'd be sweet...

Looking foward to the 'sea bag drag'....

3 more sleeps for us. Just hubby and I heading up to camp. We are in the Hunter's Point area...hoping our camp is just as we left it and there is no winter damage or fallen trees.  I also hope we have more luck than last year for opening weekend, if not, the wine will still go down easy, the food will still be delicious and our days will still be relaxing. :) Cheers!

@T-Bone, what camp are you staying at this year?

I am hoping to be up this weekend but I'm not sure yet...life is trying to conspire against me. Otherwise the following weekend for sure. Gonna try to meet up with ya T-Bone when you come up Either my place or yours lol. I think I want to make it a goal to meet as many of you guys as possible over the next year or two.

The outpost looks quite a piece from the main lodge, can you drive to it?

T-Bone

Puck...we'll be there...so just drop by if you have the time. I'm not confident we're going to make it over to Red Pine Chute, but you never know...

Hey Ozzy...hope you are well. Yes...it's a fair-bit by water from the main lodge, but I believe we can drive into Mungo Depot and park there, then boat into the outpost. If not, it's cool...we'll find our way...

Only Michelle heading in for Opener? Wow...that's changed over the years. Used to be several groups that would brave the 'uncertainty' of it all for the adventure.

Going to the lake right around the town of Kipawa. Don't have any experience in that area, any one want to share some last minute tips?

Legend

Hi everyone,

We will be staying in Laniel for the opener. We will likely be fishing at Sandy Portage and traveling to Sunnyside for at least 1 day.

Good luck to everyone!

If you see a green Legend boat with 3 handsome guys, give us a wave.

Cheers

T-Bone

NFC...never fished that area of the lake...so I wouldn't be much help. I'm sure there's probably some info out on the old board.

Legend...have a great trip. And, am I understanding you right that you're going to travel from Laniel to Sunnyside to fish? That has to be 20+ miles each way. I've fished Sunnyside 100+ times, but never traveled more than a couple miles to do it. I'm not entirely sure I'd travel more than 5-miles to do it. Good luck over there...hope they're hittin' like crazy for you!!!

Yes, we will be making the 20 mile trip (its about 40min each way so not too bad).  We have always had a little luck in that area, know it well and enjoy the scenic ride. I hope the fish are biting as well.

Not likely I'll be up the long weekend, however I will be up the following weekend, T-Bone I'll make a trip over to grindstone and see ya guys and spend a half day fishing there. I want to start branching out and fish other sections of the lake. Besides the spring fishing sucks at my end, picks up huge late June and into July. Late summer and fall is best at my end of the lake. Lemme know what your driving and/or where your staying closer to the date I'll bring a few pops. Thx bro.

NFC30- stop in at Kipawa Outpost campground. They have a map of that area with the "hot" spots.

Tbone- Yes you can drive to Mungo. Parking might be something else though. The launch is a good deep one.

I'm also heading in for the opener with my cousins and our boys.

I was on Hunter lake last night and the surface water temp is 44.7°

Good luck everyone. Be safe.
