Well my annual guys fishing weekend on Kipawa has come and gone. This was our third year doing the trip, always the weekend after labour day weekend. Usually we have about 8 guys, but this year was a bit smaller because life got in the way for many regulars. This year it was myself and one buddy in my boat, and my dad and 2 of his buddies in his boat. Dad and his buddies got to camp around noon on the 10th, my buddy and I arrived around 9pm. We didn't get any fishing done the first night because of our late arrival, but dad and his buddies came in for the evening bite shortly after we arrived and reported catching about 15 eyes, but all very small, only one keeper of the bunch.

After a couple beers and a good sleep my buddy and I headed out at first light Friday morning. This trip was very successful as we landed 26 walleyes between the two of us in roughly 22ft of water, 6 of which being perfect for the pan.15-18". When we arrived back at camp the old boys were happy too see today's lunch had been caught. After breakfast we went out for a mid morning laker troll, which resulted in 3 lakers for my boat and another 3 lakers for the old boys boat, all released. After a great walleye lunch, we headed back out for another laker troll, this time my boat landed 4, biggest being 28" and the old boys caught none.. Once again all lakers released. We headed straight from laker fishing to our walleye spot to get an early start on the evening walleye bite. It had begun to get quite windy and a cold front moving in, which was slowing down the fish- my boat only managed 6 walleye and the old boys doing about the same. We fisher from 35'-17' of water.

Saturday morning my buddy and I were early to rise again for some first light walleye, and it paid off again- we landed 23 walleye and 1 perch in about 1.5 hours. Kept 6 for another fry and threw many other keepers backs. Fished 17' of water. We once again headed back to camp for breakfast than back out for a mid morning laker troll. We laned another 4 lakers in my boat, all between 20-25". After lunch we headed out for another laker troll and changed a couple things were were doing and seemed to get them really dialed in, this time we landed 9 lakers and I lost what I imagine was a BIG BOY. Hit the spoon and instantly started pulling drag (no other laker had pulled drag off the strike).. When I got the rod out of the rod hold it was just solid weight with big, slow head shakes.. I wasn't making any progress on it, went to loosen the drag to let it take a run, must have loosened it off to much and gave it just enough slack to spit the hook. Wish I had got a look at her. Was tough to leave the very active lakers but we headed over to the walleye hump for the evening bite. My boat landed 14 walleye, with a couple decent ones for the pan.

Sunday morning we did not head out due to a combination of self inflicted illness and high winds. So we spent the morning cleaning up camp and we headed out.

Final weekend numbers for just my boat (my buddy and I only) 69 walleye- biggest 19", 20 lakers- biggest 28", and 1 perch.

Already looking forward to next year!!

Sorry no walleye were picture worthy in boat and never thought to take a pre-clean on shore pic... Guess you'll just have to take my word on the walleye!

Sorry about the repeats of pics. The "tinypic" is a little hard to use on the iPhone. Mods feel free to clean it up. Haha thanks

darn! Forgot to pixel that out! haha. Yeah, that was the only one we caught jigging... set the ipilot and gave it a try for about 30 minutes... that was the 28"er, biggest of the weekend. Planned on Jigging again but the trolling was on fire Saturday, so hard to stop doing whats working.

600 miles north

thanks for sharing the pics WillageD, the weekend trips go fast up on Kip but it's better to be there for a couple days than not be there at all!

Those self inflicted illnesses are not fun!  ;) :) Cheers!

600 miles north is where I'd rather be!
