Hey gang, yeah the book is a great read, essepcaly for anyone who enjoys spedning time in the area.
Scott's sense of humor and story telling ability makes it an easy boook to read and hard one to put down!
One part of that book that always sticks out and makes me laugh is about the two brothers with the whiskey bottle tree!
Chuckling now just thinking about it!

Thanks for sharing the boat adventure part of the book @600 miles north .

@puckster_guy the boat is all winterized on this end so we're done for the season but perhaps next year?
We plan on doing a cabin rental again and I'm sure we'll do an explore up the lake!
I'll keep you posted when we get planning, it would be great to join up for a boating day!

Take care:
Brent

Greg

Great pictures (I miss the summer trip reports!) - for the bear pictures - we had a shore lunch on that same beach on our last full day...  what a great place.

Re: The church - maybe I have seen that, or just zoomed by, but where (exactly is that)?  I would love to check it out next year.

Thanks,
   ...Greg

My boats in the lake and it's gonna stay there till Halloween weekend. Heading up this weekend till Wednesday. Had precious few trips this summer due vehicular issues and other BS. wanna make the most out of Oct.
Days spent fishing don't count against life :)

Northbound

There is a mother bear with three cubs that live behind the Church.

In reference to the comment regarding people writing on the church walls. It seems to be a tradition that all canoe clubs stop at the church to provide personal autographs.

Hello everyone from Manaus Brazil!
I'll answer the location question when I return home......

@Dog, only saw one Landcruiser, I expected more considering we were on the border of the Amazon!
The one I saw looked like it hadn't moved in some time.....

@Greg, the red star indicates the location of the church, hope that helps!

Interesting to know about the bears!

In regards to the wall writing;
I agree with the original post that it does look like crap....
But, I will admit in my younger days I'm guilty of once writing on a wall in an abandoned house down near snake creek area.
Now that I'm older I find it a shame and now regret doing so in the past and try to offer this perspective to my children.

I think when we're young, we want to been seen and heard and make our mark and don't often think about how it affects the next person.
As we get older we see that some change and methods of attracting attention are not always for the greater good and would prefer to simply preserve what we enjoy......

The church is in amazing shape for it's age and the graffiti does somewhat detract from it's original beauty.
But, I can't hardly judge.......

@Fort Wisers

Thanks for the map/location - I actually had to look for that location on the larger map I have - I have never been that far north, only around the turtle island area across to the north river entrance, I actually didn't realize the small channel there opened up to another larger lake - I always just looked past the little islands there and said "I wonder how far that goes before you run out of water".   Hmmm, now I'm thinking your bear pictures were at a different beach than my shore lunch.

Here is how I see it - NOW I HAVE A NEW DESTINATION TO GO CHECK OUT NEXT YEAR!!   Awesome, thanks!  Have you fished around that area lots?  how is it?  Is the channel connecting the Turtle Island area to Hunters point deep enough to just motor down the middle at full speed?

As I mentioned in my trip report, I like exploring a new area of the lake every year... that church is next year's destination!

Hey @Greg
Yeah there'a actually a fair bit of water even after the church, we didn't go any further than the church but I'd like to go spend more time here.
Never fished this area, and I can't say I know anyone who has (most of my friends/family has camps and sticks closer to Kipawa Village).
The channel from turtle island to Hunters seems pretty good for boat use.
We saw a few boats go through and while they may not have been running full speed, they certainly didn't look worried about depth.
That being said, we only explored with canoes and these people in their boats are likely local to the area and know the shallow spots like the back of their hands.
Also, as you get closer to the bridge (where bearn road crosses) the channel gets narrow and there are a few camps dotted along the shore so I'd want to slow down out of respect for their places.

Joe and I are talking about making a boat trip next year as well, maybe we'll have to put together a "floatilla" and go explore!
When you go up to turtle island by boat, how do you go up? Do you go by turtle darn or up near lac bedout?

Greg

Morning...

When I go up to turtle island,I go through "the Chute" - I always stay at Alwaki lodge so its close, and come out by turtle island is on your right and the Alwaki outpost cabin is on your left - and looking at the map now, I see that the church is way past the outpost cabin around the corner and head north.  I spend a lot of time all around Turtle island as I find the fishing good, beautiful scenery and the lake is not very busy in that area.  I have come down through the north river and out to hunter lake (right past the big Kipawa lodge) a few times for a nice big round trip, but the north river is very tight and I idle through there as slow as possible.  I mentioned in my trip report that I thumped a big rock at one place, but it was easy to backup and move to the right 4 feet.

I actually have a video of me going through the chute from another boat a couple hundred meters back - I should try to post that.

I believe I am scheduled next summer at Alwaki from July 23 to 30th (I have to confirm those dates) - a flotilla sounds like fun (cold beverage in hand).

On an unrelated point, I was in Toronto (Etobicoke) this weekend for a hockey tournament and was driving home (Orleans) headed up the 416 yesterday afternoon and saw the sign for Bishop Mills and I remember looking at your profile that I think you are in that area.

Cheers,
Greg

Opps, I meant to say Oxford Mills (not biship mills).

You are correct sir, We are actually just between Oxford Mills and Merrickville.
Stop in for a cold one next time you're passing through....
