Hello everyone.  Hope your all doing good.  Sorry I havent posted on here in a few years.  I kind of forgot about this site.  Just came back from a week long trip at Two Moon Lodge owned by Dave and Julie Morin.  Some of the finest people I know.  They run a great setup and Dave has taught me alot over the years how to fish Lake Kipawa.
That being said, we had a great week of fishing despite wearing my rain gear about 90 percent of the week.  Between four guys we managed around 250 fish catching a respectable amount of all four main species.  The best fish being a 41" around 19-20lb Northern Pike which was caught by yours truly.  I couldnt believe the size of this big girl when my father scooped it up in the net.  (Pics posted in the gallery).  Took a few pics, measured her and sent her back to be caught another day perhaps?  She swam off like a champ, so im sure she is alive and well. In total we got around 25 Lakers biggest around 25", 150 or so Walleye biggest around 23", around 20 Pike biggest being the above mentioned 41" and 50 or so Smallmouths biggest being a big fat 21" slob.  I myself had two "Grand Slams" as we like to call them.  Grand Slam is catching all four species in the same day.  Lakers, Walleye, Pike and Smallmouths.  It was a great trip that I still cant stop thinking about.  I will be mounting that Pike for sure.  Walleye bite was a little slow, but we still managed a decent catch.  I would think they are biting good this week with the better weather?  Water temps were way below normal for the timing of our trip.  Even the black flies agreed with me on that lol.  Skeets werent too bad though, so that was a huge plus.
Good luck to everyone fishing or heading there to fish soon.  We only kept around a dozen fish to eat all week (Walleye), so we left plenty to be caught another day 🐟🐟🐟🐟

Thanks for the report...some nice fishing there. Our catch is distributed in another way....99% 'eyes...1% pike...rarely a laker...never a smallie (which is fine by us)...

And...welcome back to the conversation...

Thanks everyone.  We have been fishing Kipawa for 17 years now, so we have alot of experience.  I learn something new every year and find new spots also.  I tried something new with the Walleye that I do when im ocean fishing for Fluke here on Long island that worked like a charm the last day of my trip.  Cant wait to try it again.  Will be doing a September trip one of these years soon also.  We all absolutely love it there.  Keep the faith new guys on the lake.  Just need time to figure it out and next thing you know you will be netting alot more fish.  We started off only catching maybe 5-10 Walleye A day, one Laker the entire week, maybe one Pike and no bass.  Im surprised we stuck with it to be honest considering it takes us 15 hours to drive there, but im glad we did because we are much better now.  That lake has some DYNAMITE fishing to be had.

Thanks for the report.
Our group has a name for the grand slam, we call it catching the cycle; same idea just a different term.

Welcome back!

PETERBFLY

Haha I like it.  We actually just started it this year.  We are jacks of all traits and know how to fish for every species individually which is what makes it so much fun to me.  I caught around 10 Pike on purpose this last trip and didnt even catch my first one until 2013 (on accident).  I was trolling for Lakers when I got it.  Now I have a 41", 34", 33", 32 and 30" amongst a bunch in the 20's.  We didnt get any keeper Lakers this trip, but they were definitely bigger than the Lakers we caught last year.  We dont keep them anyway, so it really didnt matter.

THANKS FOR ADDING THE LINK RHYBAK.  Anyone know how Bryce is doing?  Havent seen him in a few years and miss those guys.  They were a great group that I always enjoyed learning from.

Great report, Nice to see some other NY'ers on the forum. I also grew up on Long Island along the South shore. The drifting technique we use does remind me of fishing fluke on the South bay.  Ziggy

PETERBFLY

Where abouts Ziggy?  I grew up in Queens and live in Lindenhurst now.  Where do you live now?  Someone in camp a few years ago asked me was it worth it?  Driving all this way to fish when you have great fishing at home?  My reply was, "WORTH EVERY SECOND" lol

I agree @PETERBFLY;  it is definitely worth the drive in. The lake is great.

Sometimes the return trip isn't as much fun though.

Grew up in West Islip, have a sister who lives in LIndenhurst. Did my studies at Hofstra as well.  Spent a lot of time on the Great South bay and FI... Ended up in the Albany area 30 years ago but still have friends in LI. It's a long drive, even for us, but its definitely worth it. Nothing like it in our area. Add to that the excitement of preparation that permeates through my group of friends. I do find it is interesting trying to explain the attraction to non fishermen or people that think staying in a 2 star hotel is roughing it.  They nod their heads and smile but I dont think they can really understand.  :)
