Had a great weekend at Alwaki, far to short!!! Fishing was absolutely fantastic considering the conditions. By the time I got in and unpacked on Saturday, the weather was not great and pretty rough seas.

I got out for an hour or so but didn't catch anything. Sunday I was on the water for 7 am and it was still quite rough for my old dog in the boat so I stayed close to the lodge. I trolled cranks and bottom bouncers picking up 4 or 5 walleye in the 14-16" size range. Then I stopped on a school and it it was on.. every time i dropped a jig.. with in 5 mins I had on one all the same size 14-16 inches. I ended the day with 17" fish.

It didn't seem to matter if I was fishing worms, leeches or plastics (frequency was just a bit slower ) the bite continued like this until around 2:30 when we took a break, my 2 labs needed a washroom and swim break :)

Had dinner and back on the water for 4 pm. Trolled around a bit, looking for bigger ones but picked up a few more on cranks, stopped at the shoal and while the action was a little slower it wasn't by much. Fish were a little higher up by 7 so I started slip bobbering and it was back on! If they were on my screen I got bite!

No pics because I was having to much fun! One of my best days ever!! Had to be well over 100 fish!

I have a this custom med-light jigging rod that is just absolutely fantastic to hold all day, super light and sensitive with a nice soft tip! You can feel everything with this rod and because it's light, a feisty 16" walleye is still fun :) They are the same quality as a G.Loomis NRX but much much cheaper, probably 1/4 the cost!

Even met a few guys from the board! It was great talking with you guys! In my excitement to actually talk to somebody as it was just me and the dogs this weekend, I forgot to ask who I was talking to HAHA! I'm sorry guys!!! I know your boats though since we are both Alaskan owners :)

Come on labor day.. got a whole week up there!!! Gonna try some trolling for Lakers, seems like a good a excuse to tour the lake :)

Did you get a chance to run the dogs at my place?
Everybody is a genius.
But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree,
it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.

Hi!

I wanted to but I didn't have your location on Hunter's Bay. So I didn't want to take a chance at getting on the wrong property LOL! But I really appreciate the offer and would like to take you up on it the next time I'm up.

Ya it was bonkers! Total of 13-14 hrs of non stop fish... insane in my book. Ya I would have liked to see a little more size, but still a load of fun only my second weekend up there ever! I'm sure I will find the bigger ones with more experience on this lake.

Some awesome fish catching!
Great report.  Thanks for sharing.

Wow great fishing Greg. You'll be smiling  for a long time. As for the larger fish I had a very basic strategy to target a larger average size Pickerel in Kipawa. I'm actually surprised I haven't seen it brought up on this forum much, if at all, as most of the members here do focus on Walleye, whereas we were always predominantly day time fishing for lakers, dragging gang trolls, whether behind leadcore, copper or riggers. Plus when you have two or three cabins of guys out for a week there's some good partying going on for sure, as you all know hehe. So here's what I learned to do. 3 words. Fish after dark. It really is that simple. The hard part was to not party so much some days during the day lol. Have a good dinner and then head out for the last hour of light and beyond. I always wanted to try a later nite troll across sandbanks with stickbaits instead of jigging the evening bite but never did try.

Cheers
