Lake of the Woods looks like a nice place to go Lima. I've looked a some of the info from the link you posted.  It looks like you fished way further northern part of the water system.

On Thursday, July 9th I gave up all hope for a two week September Watson Lake Cabins trip.  In addition to the closing of the boarder, my passport expired in June and I waited until May to submit my renewal.  The website says to expect significant delays in processing with 1.7 million waiting.  (Last I looked). So......I made reservation at a resort in Northern Wisconsin.  Google says the drive is less than 12 hours from Central Ohio and the deciding factors were that the lake is on Navionics and they have an impressive web site.  Never been there and have spoken to no one who has.  Seems like a quiet place to get away.

My sister has no faith in my ability to put her on fish.  She has found a Casino within 40 miles of the lake.  What Ever!!

I looked into a lot of alternatives in northern Wisconsin. Plenty of options up there and I have a colleague that has cabin up on the Turtle Flambeau flowage. He made some suggestions, but I just couldn't pull the trigger as he shared (and was backed up by some comments I found on a fishing board) the fishing up there is not nearly the quality you get and expect when you go north of the border. Would love to know what outfitter / lake you landed with...I probably checked them out at some point.

LOTW is a looong way from here to experiment on a very, very large body of water; it would be great, but at this point with cases still rising, it's just not worth the risk on both fronts.

We were based in Kenora but mostly fished Shoal Lake which is just a little north of the Angle. There were 5 of us. We all caught walleye over 10 pounds. And we all caught pike over 15 pounds.
Great holiday.

As I said earlier, my weak substitute plan is to take my son,Jon, on a Lake Erie walleye charter. We're all set for Sept. 1st. I want to say a special thanks to Hodgey1 for all the help he gave me on the area. We have some great people on this site.

Dog

No fishing substitute planned... just walk to our neighborhood pond to get a line wet for bass once in a while.

I suppose my true substitute has been working on our new to us vehicle... the Kipawa trip money this year went towards some maintenance and mods: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-2nd-gen-2010-present/934013-lexi-s-ownership-log.html

Like Dog; no fishing substitute planned.  There was one, but it was cancelled by the state.

If I'm lucky, I may be able to hit a local lake just to get out on the water.

With our first trip to Kipawa, after 4 years at Ogascanan, postponed once before eventually being cancelled, the majority of our group has come up with a NYS alternative, opting to spend 4 days at Oneida Lake. Unfortunately, our one out-of-state friend won't be able to join us.

One of our group purchased his first boat this spring and was itching to take it to Canada. We have been able to take it out for a few day trips at a local lake. But the Oneida trip will be 6 of us, in two boats, searching for walleye or bass. Certainly not the same, but I'm sure we'll have a great time, fishing, retelling old stories, and generating new ones.
