Best beer for your buck?

Hey guys, quick poll. In Temiscaming, is the IGA or Stop 101 better for a beer run? Price and selection? we've been stopping at Stop 101 for the last 12 years or so, seems like tradition at this point but hey, money is money and saving a few dollars means buying for fishing gear.

 I agree, I always get my beer at stop 101. I wish they had more selection, tho. I get Sleemans by default. I never buy Molsons anymore since they switched from using brewers sugar to high fructose corn syrup.

I prefer the Crevier right in town. They also carry craft beer from Qc. They seem to have a wider selection of the usual suspects.

We have been going to the IGA, but found Crevier last year and was surprised at the selection of beers. I didn't pay much attention to their prices, but selection was way better if wanting something other the mass produced beers. The IGA has a decent selection, but not as good as Crevier.

I have to correct the statement about Molsons, they have been using HMCS (high maltose corn syrup) for more than 25 years now, it is made from Canadian corn and it is providing jobs for Canadian Farmers, all sugar in Canda is IMPORTED, it is time that we call out people who just spread incorrect information (fake news?) what do you know about Sleemans?

I don't know about sugar, or what craft beer is the taste of the town today as they all taste horrible to me. As most of you know I'm a Bleue fan. $17.99 a case at Duty Free, and they have the 30 pack cubes at Stop 102 (not sure where the Stop 101 is...must be on a parallel dimension or something) for a good price. Never been to Crevier for anything other than gas. Bleue it is every time...a buck or two in savings on price really doesn't matter.

Sleeman's = Good. Very drinkable. Molson = Not So Much.

I  understand where your coming from, however I disagree. I osed to brew beer and now my step son also is a brewer. Entering competitions with his craft beers. In both instances brewers sugar is always used to make beers, irregardless of costs. I'm a proponent of the Bavarian Purity laws when it comes to making beer. There are many versions(strains) of hops, Malts Barleys Or wheats, and yeasts for a  thousand  different flavours. Sleemans is swill only slightly better then Bud or most other mass produced beers. It's fine for chugging on the boat or around the camp fire. At home I'll drink a variety of European or local craft beers for true taste. You can keep your corn or rice flavored beer. Like everything else on this planet it has a place. Including by my camp fire, but to me it's not real beer.... Just my opinion brother. Take it anyway you like.

I aggree with puckster_guy a little on this one. I'm from southwestern Ontario and the craft beer is blowing up around here, new breweries every couple months it seems. I love trying new beers that are made from different ingredients from around the world, and if i am going to buy just a couple beers to sit down and enjoy I buy craft. However: when consuming the quantity of beer that is consumed during a week of fishing up north, I believe the mass produced, price friendly option has it's place. Everyone has a preference, some more specific than others. Ill drink almost any beer around a campfire. Thanks for all the input with my question on where to buy.

Guess I totally agree - any beer around the campfire is a goid beer.  Looks like mosquitos are in total agreement as well.

I like the taste of hops so I occasionally have a few Muskoka Detours at camp but they're ~$3.25 per tall boy. So my brother and I will buy the Sleemans variety pack when we're working around camp to refresh but at the campfire, it's showtime!

Love these IPA's- Goose Island, Smashbomb Atomic, Red Racer, Hops & Robbers and Boneshaker.

 This topic got me thinking of making my own beer again. My stepson keeps his beer in kegs and has a adapted a freezer with taps on. That'll be a bit tougher at the camp cause usually it's tins in a cooler with ice. But perfect for home, we'll put the freezer right beside the couch or computer chair. 
Besides it can save me some bread now that I retired lol and great beer to boot.

Ummm beer....
We don't drink a lot but personally Wisers is my go to for general beverage of choice.
That being said and since beer is the subject, a couple cold pints after a day of working in the bush can sure hit the spot.
I haven't bought beer Temiscaming/Kipawa way in a while so I'm of no value for where to get.

But since we're mentioning brand names....
Guinness, Killkenny, Neustadt 10W30, Highlander Blacksmith, a few that lima mentioned are all suspects that frequent our fridge as well.
Blue if dad is in town, or wildcat, he's old school and doesn't like hoppy.

Great, now I'm thirsty and Friday evening has to start early......
