Kipawa Points of Interest Map

To all here: My idea of a shared, interactive map was never intended to be anything more than a way of sharing points of interest and also area of danger, among forum members. I never wanted it to create controversy or be a problem for anyone. It has come to my attention that there are some fishing hot spot shared on the map "I personally did not know" and it has a few people unhappy. As a person who has gained much knowledge from the folks here, I can appreciate not wanting the entire world to have access to such information.

The Fix: I am going to change the editing from public to private and remove spots that include fishing hot spots. I need someone to point out the spots to me, so I can remove them. Please PM me and I will do my best to remove anything "within reason" that is an issue and people want removed.

Going Forward: Since I will now be the only person able to edit, if anyone has a spot they want added to the map, they will need to PM me the information and I will update the map. I'm certain this will reduce it's effectiveness, but I do not want people here that have been so helpful to me, to be upset by what was intended to be a useful tool. If someone would please, check and see that the map can still be viewed, not editable and PM me their results.

Great solution Hodgey.  I do enjoy seeing some of the names of points of interest as well.  Plan to go up to the old church for a sight see now that I know where it is.  Cheers, Dave

Maybe it's just me but I thought one of the benefits of this web site was to help new fisherman catch a few fish on their first few trips to Kipawa. Haven't we all been given tips either by the outfitter or camp veterans as to where to fish?  What's the difference if it's marked on a map or posted in a trip report?   Fishing a so called hot spot is no guarantee that they'll be there when you are anyways and even if they're there, you still have to figure out how to catch em.  We may have learned that in a trip report, right?  Should we eliminate trip reports too?  I don't want to get anyone upset but that is just my opinion.

I totally agree CC. It's not like those balloons are right on the spot either. In fact I've seen many of those spots marked on you tube videos. Besides, if I'm at Alwaki or Kipawa lodge there's not a chance in heck that I'd be traveling that far up around 3  Seasons for an evening/night fish when there are tons of areas plenty good to fish around the hub area. And if someone really wanted to know those spots all you have to do is go for an evening tour and see where the boats are anchored, that will give you the exact area. But to each their own.

I think we can all agree that Trip Reports do offer general areas to fish but that's a far cry from an actual waypoint on a map.
You want to help newbies catch more fish-let them pour over trip reports like we have done.

The 2 other fishing forums I belong to DO NOT POST WAYPOINTS or A DESCRIPTION OF SAID FISHING SPOT. If you do: your post is removed by the mods.

If you treat Mother Nature with respect; you will enjoy years of great fishing.

I have somewhat reluctantly made the map private and removed the fishing spots pointed out to me. I had no way of knowing even that they were fishing spot until brought up. The points made here by both sides I feel are valid and why it was a tough decision for me to remove locations added by others here. My knowledge base for Kipawa has 90% come from the people here and I desperately do not want people upset by my actions or inactions. I have made what I would consider, real good friends here and we keep in touch outside of the forum and I value that. The older I get, the more I appreciate friendships.

Three years ago I came to Kipawa for the first time. I was a complete newb, not only a Kipawa newb, but also a complete newb to jigging for fish let alone walleye. I Spent most of my fishing life in remote creeks fishing for trout. I received a tremendous list of help from many people here. @T-Bone , @RHYBAK , @limacharley  , @smitty55 , @CaptainCrappie , @Jay Thomas and others. I showed up at Alwaki green as the day was long and with all that help, I hit the ground running with my son-in-law and we caught "what I consider" a lot of fish, over 200. Now 6 trips later and many walleye, I can't wait for the two more trips next year that are already booked.

Here's some of the help I recieved :

• Given the correct pole length, weight and action
• Told the right reel type and size
• Given guidance on line type and weight
• Told what bait to use
• Handed Maps of the lake with general areas to fish
• Told times of the day to fish
• Shown proper jig colors and weight

Had I not received all that help and my first experience been bad, I may not have been back? But, maybe that's the point, no one would have cared, besides maybe Alwaki

I agree Hodgey.  There are definitely 2 streams of thought on this topic and I am clearly on the "sharing is caring" side (LOL)... I am proud to offer assistance and help people succeed and share in this great hobby - I do not believe the rivers and lakes will be emptied - as a mostly catch and release fisherman who believes in preservation of the fishieres, I try to pass on this principle to those I assist also.

On an inside note, I recently have lost a long time good fishing buddy because I unintentionally and innocently shared one of "his" spots - on a highly populated and busy river (where people can go for a cruise and observe where you are fishing and make notes to try later) - it was a simple misscommunication (I called him the previous evening before fishing and discussed where we were going and what we were going to target and he said he didn't care) which I obviously regret but I am going to move on as I simply don't feel it's all that valid - he won't even talk, text or email with me.  We don't make our living or put food on the table by fishing - it's a hobby and sport we love, therefore I believe in sharing the knowledge.

Just my 2 cents.  Like others say - I am not trying to offend.

I totally agree with you regarding this site being here to help members.
I do it all the time but mostly through P.M. and very limited on the open forum
I don't know if you ever look at who is logged into the site .
Most of the time there are a lot of Guests and those guests are reading everything.
That mean that these non- members are what I call LURKING.

We should not be posting all of that information for LURKERS to absorb.
