After reading Hodgey's post and him saying how he doesn't care for bass, I thought, Hey, we did a post on favorite drinks how about fish? (Sorry T-Bone)
My favorites are fresh water perch, preferably from hard water in the Finger Lakes, Walleye, Flounder, and Sea Bass from the Atlantic Coast. I don't care for trout or salmon, too fishy.

Hi Gary,

Good topic as well.

Some of my preferred fish to eat include Lake Erie (western basin) Yellow Perch, British Columbia Halibut and Walleye. I have to order the Yellow Perch or the Halibut to enjoy a feed. And fortunately, if I want to eat more Walleye than I’ve brought home from fishing trips, I can order freshly caught and frozen Lake Erie (western basin) walleye. From the mid 60s until the late 90s, I fished for speckled trout, rainbow trout and lake trout and I was lucky enough to enjoy many trout meals during that 30 year period. My wife and I also enjoy farmed Atlantic Salmon on the BBQ every couple of weeks.

When at home I would have to agree with the yellow perch and also add in crappie and bluegills. Walleye are my favorite north of the border because unfortunately here in central pa there isn't a lot of opportunities to catch walleye in local lakes. I've eaten walleye out of lake Erie and the Susquehanna River and they don't compare to fresh eyes from Kipawa.

A walleye dinner after a day on a Canadian Lake is hard to beat partly because of the atmosphere. Blue Gills and White Perch are also tasty but don't get very big. I have a farm pond with Blue Gills but this year the only Gills caught and eaten were caught by my brothers grand kids 5&8 years old, they had a blast until the youngest fell in and scared himself.

Fresh water, hands down the walleye or yellow perch.

Saltwater, pretty much any saltwater fish I’ve eaten, I’ve likedAnd many I flat out love! My favorite is Red snapper and grouper, close behind is black bass, orange roughy , flounder, salmon, tuna, and sword fish. I have never eaten a saltwater fish I didn’t like with the exception of shark and that may have been Jaw related, LOL!

The walleye I eat is delicious, wether it is from kipawa or Lake Erie. I am not a fan of lake trout unless it is smoked, but then it becomes a different animal. The last July I was at Alwaki, @Ozzy30 and his wife prepared some deep fried Lake trout that was delicious!

Mangro Snapper are a very close second to Walleye.

Pike from cold water.

My favorites : salt water ; Yellow eye deep fried in batter, Halibut poached in a wine sauce, Mediterranean style, Ling Cod pan fried in butter.
fresh water; jumbo Lancaster perch pan fried, Walley deep fried in a batter, Native Brookies pan fried in butter.

@ Rhybak, What area of lake Simcoe do you get your perch in? I've tried twice in spring around  Thora Island, Georgina Island, Big Shoal, McCrea Shoal, and not caught a single perch. We tried all the local " HOT JIGS " with and without minnows and nada. We did manage to hook into some very nice Whitefish 3 to 6 pounds that made for some good eating, but no perch. Then last winter my son and I booked 2 days and 1 night with Tim Hales out of Beaverton, with not much better luck, 4 Perch and 1 Whitefish in 32 hours on the ice. Where am I going wrong?

I must agree, sweedish fish are best when consumed fresh out of the bag and never before bed time "so says my dentist".

@Captain Hali I look forward to the day I can try Halibut. Oh and any fish pan fried in butter is excellent!  8)
