So, as we get closer (hopefully) to approaching an 'end' of sorts to this current challenge of health and patience, I find myself looking toward the Canadian news outlets for info on border opening, current status of pandemic efforts, general pulse of the Canadian political scene, etc.

I've been reviewing the National Post, CBC, and Toronto Star mostly. Some of it is pretty laughable...such a different spin on U.S. news that is clearly offered to influence a point-of-view or political position. Some of it is WAAAAAY too liberal for me, and some of it is just lifestyle fodder to promote this or that approach to living in Canada.

I'd have a hard time saying I trust a particular news source here in the states, but certainly some are better than others as it pertains to offering an objective and central position. What news sources do those of you within Canada 'trust'? There seem to be many...

Thanks.

I was never one to read much on news but with the world the way it is I find myself reading as much as i can.  I take a bit of every source because I can't tell if any of them are tell the truth, 1/2 truths, so I take it all in.  Just in case my wife ever reads this I only read the TORONTO STAR (she works for them)  lol.  At this point we have a couple trips booked next year to other parts of the world and we don't know what is going to happen.  I may be completely or just slightly wrong but just because we are vaccinated, doesn't mean we can't transfer and carry the virus, it is just to help with making the symptoms lighter.  But if I understand it, there are still people that are vaccinated getting hospitalized.  I do hope everyone is staying safe and as soon as possible and safe I would love for my american friends and all my other friends around canada to be able to visit.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I think you have hit all the obvious news outlets, Toronto Star, Ottawa Sun, CBC, National Post, Ottawa Citizen... it seems they are all connected now anyway and you see the same story published on multiple sites.

Sift through all the information, take out the opinions and you find something that is fuzzy-truth.  Hit up canada.ca (governments web site) or google public health agency of Canada, or Ontario Public Health Agency and you get official government communicated information which resembles the fuzzy-truth also.

I take every piece of news regarding the states with a grain of salt also... I agree it is definitely has a shaded colour as well.

Hope you can make it up at some point this year!  I am planning on a Sept trip - we didn't get to meet up last year, hope we can this year.

I religiously watch Fox News, particularly Tucker Carlson, as my number 1 news resource for news in all locations! ;)

Are you speaking tongue and cheek? Here, that's as far right as it gets...unless you find a way to tune into the Proud Boys network somehow. You may want to take that 'news' with a barn of salt...Jay.

In U.S...I'd say Fox is pretty-far right conservative...CNN getting over there on the far-left position. Somewhere between the two is about 60% of the truth, I'd guess. PBS is the most 'central' and generally can be trusted as close to honest/objective here.

Good news. So...what is your go-to Jay?

And I am interested in Rhybak's, but that may have to be a private communication.  ;D

For starters, I don't ever watch Fox News. Any news source connected to Trump like they are is just plain unacceptable. I do tune into CNN to listen to Brian Stelter, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, Jake Tapper and Christiane Amanpour.

Generally, I'm dissatified with Canadian newscasts regardless whether it is CBC or CTV. There are very very few indepth presentations.

I have a weekly subscription to The Ottawa Citizen newspaper and I have a monthly subscription to the Globe & Mail on my desktop.

If I want to learn about some issue, I will typically Google it.

Generally any news source is good in Canada, granted it will have a slant but up here news is news. Up here they do have opinion news based shows but they don't make laughable shite up. Apparently we have shame up here.

It's not left or right with you guys...it's connected to reality or propaganda. Fox's defence when sued was that a reasonably intelligent person would assume that what was stated was nothing more then entertainment.

I look at this daily. Things are trending downwards :)

Pleeeaaassse, I thought this was a FISHING  FORUM!!!!!
If I want to get the latest opinions on POLITICS, I'll go to a Forum dealing in Politics. Not that I see anything good or positive coming out of that, but, to each his own opinion.
You see, On January 14th, 2021 I was told by my Cardiologist as well as my G.P. that my time has come, and I would be cashing in my chips before the end of June!!! So I cancelled my reservation with Brian to open an opportunity for someone else to experience the KIPAWA thing.
ENJOY, for it is a thing dreams are made of, a piece of heaven. Tight lines and a tall cold one to all, for as long as you are able

Please...nobody is turning this into a political pulpit...and I'm confident if it started to lean that way the Mods would step in. Notice...the question was about news resources...not politics...so take a breath. And if ALL posts and comments were ONLY about fishing Kipawa or the region, this would get very boring very quickly.

I'm confident when you sit down with friends you don't limit your conversations to only one topic, all the time, every time...

Canadian news has pretty much become unwatchable this last year.  My wife watches the National and it drives me nuts because you only get one side of the story. The Canadian news protects whichever government is supporting it and ignores counter perspectives. If you believe everything you see in our news you're in trouble haha. I think with all news sources you have to  be able to a lot of thinking for yourself with limited information and perspective that's given. I pretty much just check the news for case numbers and new restrictions. Currently praying for provincial borders to open before June 5th, if only Ontario can get it's s*** together.
