Just read this nice fact .Good to know for everybody that thinks they have a Blue Walleye

According to the MNR

The Campbell Status Report of 1985 officially declared the Blue Walleye extinct. The last Blue Walleye to be officially recognized as a Blue Walleye by the MNR was caught in Lake Erie in 1965. Walleyes being caught now that appear blue are just regular Walleyes but the acidity of the water made them blue. In actuality, it's a bacterium that thrives in acid water and colonizes on a fish's skin and changes its skin color.

I often wondered about the blue walleye being in Kip. Manny times while cleaning, there appears a blueish slime on my nice white cleaning board.
Now I know better.

One of the walleyes I caught while on Kipawa had a bluish hue to it.
It was caught down off the island out front of Two Moons Lodge.
Kept it in the livewell and was released in front of Smithbay Docks.
It definitely had a nice blue hue to it. First one I've ever caught.

I have caught two extremely blue walleye around the Alwaki part of the lake and they were very blue, including the slime.

Interesting! We used to get them on Nipissing once in awhile, but I guess they were not "True" blue walleye. ... We see a lot of them on kip tho!

Maybe they too drink the Labatt's Bleue.

The blue is a protein secretion that is linked to UV radiation, almost like a sunscreen. Northern lakes with more light exposure will produce blue mucus walleye.
Kipawa walleye have little vegetation for cover, so it makes sense.

I caught quite I few last year, and they were all very blue. Some had a little bit of green, but they were definitely blue fish.
