I saw some old threads about leeches regarding this question, but they are old. So my question...

Is it still OK to "import" leeches from Ontario into Quebec? Not sure how they'd find out unless they stopped you in Temiscaming.

Thanks.

I believe you are not allow to transport live bait between provinces.

I could be incorrect but I think it has been like this for some time now.

Hey T,

I am trying to find official web site from Que government, but I believe you can!  Leeches are not considered in the "live bait" category (or worms).  I believe the restriction is for minnows and/or frogs, etc.  However, I'll keep searching.

As for getting checked... I have personally seen and been through a huge road stop at the intersection of highway 533 and the 63, in all three directions, the Opp police, with game wardens from both Quebec and Ontario checking all vehicles towing boats - going towards Quebec and coming from Quebec - I've honestly never been through a more rigorous road check - i was on the way home ... vehicle registration/insurance, and boat registration/insurance, plus the game wards checked all my coolers and compartments in my boat and truck.  I did see and talk to another guy going towards Quebec with live minnows and he was receiving a ticket and his minnows were being seized.  Serious stuff.

Cheers,
Greg

The quebec regulations do not recognize, frogs, leeches and worms as bait fish.  The regulations say you are not allowed to import bait fish so I see no issue in it
