Its 2023 and a lot has changed in the way of fishing gear over the years. Curious what everyone here is using for type, brand & weight of fishing line while fishing for walleye at Kipawa?

I use suffix 832 braid 10lb in green. I then tie a 6 ft fluorocarbon leader on, also in 10lb.

Great topic.
Two different rigs.

1. Jigging: Yozuri Super Braid with a 6ft Fluoro leader. Both 8 pounds. Salesman at Bass Pro turned me on to the Yozuri. Amazing value.

2. Trolling with leader: PLINE C21 Copolymer. 8 pound. No longer use mono. This stuff casts great, low memory and is cheap.

 Kinda old school.
12 "invisible" or clear mono for trolling. No leader of any kind except for a snap swivel.
8 pound "invisible" straight to a jig.

PowerPro 10 lb with 8 lb fluorocarbon leader tied with either a Uni/uni, blood knot or FJ if If I have the time. I have actually gone up to 20lb fluorocarbon when the pike start biting me off. Tying the FJ with 20lb is pretty easy. We do a lot of jig fishing with tubes and the braid and fluorocarbon combo on a good rod and smooth reel gives a tremendous amount of feel.

Wondering why some of you tie a mono line to your braided?  What is the advantage of that?

Well a couple of reasons come to mind for me:
1 - a Mono or Fluorocarban leader allows for better knots.(at least for some of the basic knots)
2 - fluorocarbon is almost invisible in water
3 - if you use a lighter breaking strength leader it allows for easier breakage if you get hung up.

Those are my thoughts!
#2 is my primary reason.

Jigging Rod is 6?9? Fenwick Walleye Elite Tech and St Ccoix 6?6? Walleye Eyecon both with new 4Lb fire line crystal with 18? Berkley 10 lb Invisa line Floro Trolling Med heavy 9?Fenwick with Abu line counter with 30lb tuff line with 30lb Seagur floro leader sounds a bit heavy but now trolling in waters where big Walleyes,Pike and Lake Trout hang out The sensitivity with the jigging technique can?t be out matched IMP. I have also caught and landed many 28?
Walleye with this set up this rods have both sensitivity and back bone

They tie mono on because it has more stretch so when down rigging or trolling less chance of pulling hooks out of fish because braid has no stretch
Tying fluro onto braid is for finesse fishing jigging pitching plastics etc because it is invisible in water.Tying fluro leader material on braid is used instead of steel leaders so you don?t get broke off by the toothy fish and is a little less visible
