Best Lake

What the best lake in your opinion in the Kipawa Area? For what reasons?

Since the only lake I have fished in the Kipawa area is Lake Ogascanan I can't say it is the best.  We found it in 2001 and it fills our needs so why change.  The outfitter is great, the lake is awsome with lots of pike which is my main target.  We do target walleye some and have stumbled into a few lake trout without looking for them.  I would say any of the lakes in that area should be fine.  We like the remoteness of Ogas.

Where do you find most of the pike on Lake Ogascanan? We went last year and found some but not very many? Since it was our first year we just had to get used to the lake. With that said, where do you find most of your walleye?

Have you been up through the Jaway narrows?  Once you get through the narrows the east side of that bay in about 8 to 12 feet of water trolling Storm wildeye bluegil 4" will do the job.  They are not big ones, up to about 30-32".  There are lots in there.  Up at the northern end of the southern lake to the east of Jaway narrows there are large rocks under water, some not very far under so extreme caution with the boat, cast among the rocks.What cabin are you in and what week will you be there?

Don't really head up the trip, so I'm not 100% sure.. I think Smith's Pass and the 2nd week in June!

On Lake Ogascanan, in June; we have fished in Jaways Narrows and just inside of Ferguson Bay in the evenings for walleye. Both are a hit or miss (sometimes you're catching and other times your fishing).  My first pike was in Ferguson bay while fishing for walleye.  The Mullens will tell you the places to try during check-in.  Smith Pass cabin is nice, we've stayed there for several years.

I have not fished many lakes in the kipawa area no need to because lake kipawa proper is the place to go for large walleye. I remember a story an older fellow told me about the large 8,10,12 pound walleye he caught in the mid 60s, guess what fifty years later our party still catch fish that size with regularity. Lake Kipawa is to large and deap with an abundance of structure and bait fish.

Our group has fished Ogascanan but only one year .We have been at 3 Seasons Camp for the past 15 years finding peace, solitude, an amazing outfitter in  both Gerrie and now Reg  ,great fishing ,great equipment and great accommodations. We were in the area the 3rd week of May for a long time but have been coming out the 2nd week of June for some time now .

I've always fished Lake Watson, Grassy and Wolf Lake...love fishing them and love the isolation!

I have fished the Kipawa area for 54 years and nothing surpasses Lake LaFarge. the walleyes and monster pike will wear you out. Its non stop action sunup to sun down.

Have never heard of Lake Lafarge, where is it located?
