Why no smallmouth bass in central Kipawa lake? Yellow perch?

Kipawa lake would seem to be a natural lake for smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Are any of you catching either species with regularity? If so what part of the lake? I have never caught a smallmouth bass in central Kipawa waters. Yellow perch is a natural bait for walleyes but I rarely if ever caught a yellow perch while fishing Kipawa? It would be double if not triple the fun to be sitting bobber fishing for perch or smallies? Can anyone elaborate on this?

Oarin

Hi Jerry, the TBL area of the lake has a healthy small mouth population. Last year my son caught 5 from 16-19 inches in one evening. Oarin.

No smallies in my end of the lake YET! I was gonna start a thread on this. How far east have they traveled? I understand a lake with them over flowed into Kip. Near TBL. It's only a matter of time before they reach my end of the lake just wondering when. As for perch I catch lots in shallow water near my usual walleye jigging spots. One almost 3/4 of a pound. I'm told they grow pretty big here. This summer I gotta break out my ultra lite and target them. It needs a new reel. Try downsizing your walleye jig with half a worm they were killing it on some days. I was chasing them when the walleye bite was off. Hope that helps Jerry.

Thanks for your responses. Glad to hear that I wasn't crazy with no smallies. As for the yellow perch and my father, brother and I fishing 50+ years on Kipawa, surely we should have snagged one? If you would have ever met my father, you would understand that he would have pursued the perch verses the walleyes if he had a choice. My thought is that the water quality must be effected in this area?

Dunno about the water quality there Jerry. In the maclauglin lakes area where I am I found them around in about 10 fow off a point leading into deep water. Not getting bucketfulls but many good eaters. Try spots off points too shallow for walleye, on the bottom. Poke around you should be able to find some O/W come around to where I am I'll show you where I've got a few.
