Its the middle of April and there are always a few posts about the Ice out progress . Here are a couple links to web cams that give a pretty good look at the progress on Nipissing. Even though its 50 miles away its the closest I have found.
www.torbay.net  and www.greaternipissing.ca . It seems that most years it is pretty close to Kipawa timing, give or take a week. incidentally , my theory is the lakes having more shoreline because of more islands should be ice free first. then again there are so many variables, who knows. anyway, the torbay site is a pretty good close up of activity on the melt to help pass the time.

Here's a couple more at about the same lat as Kipawa, just further west; two are near Lake of the Woods, one closer to the east in the Chapleau area. I would imagine the ice off process on these lakes would more-closely mirror that of Kipawa as the lake "type" is similar. Nipp is an inland sea, albeit closer to our beloved Kipawa.

Ice is off most lakes south of Barrie now.

South of Kipawa so figure it's worse farther north

Like the redwinglodge one. looks alot like Kipawa or Sasseginega and the snow cover is gone like North Bay. Chapleau seems to have a lot of snow left and wonder if its lake effect from Superior? Thanks.

With this warm weather at least I should be able to get to my camp. In that case I'll make a trip up there in two weeks. Gonna call a friend who has a camp near mine and let you guys know as soon as I do.  Prob next weekend. (he's therealmost year round.

The web cams are great. Thanks to all for posting the links. Now we know ice conditions all around northern Ontario.  Kipawa's ice out should be around May 2nd,that's my prediction. With all of the melt waters flowing from all of the lakes north east, Kipawa rises to its summers levels rather quickly, then with a little wind the ice gets pushed around and within a few days its piled up on shore. In my 28 years my earliest arrival in camp by boat was April 9th and my latest was May 10th, The weather man is co operating nicely. Going to be another great season,Can't wait. :D

I sure hope your prediction of May 2 happens! I plan to open the cottage the weekend of May 8th as a group of fishermen are anxious to try their luck on the long weekend.  With the long weekend being early this year it sure makes things a little tricky to get the boat out and tested before heading up!  So looking forward to another summer in paradise!

600 miles north

Reggie from 3 seasons shared these pics on his Facebook page on April 15th. Still a lot of snow and ice up there!

Cheers!

600 miles north is where I'd rather be!

Puckster: your road is plowed that's why there's no snow.
I was up there last Saturday. I needed tracks on my quad to get to the lake. Unplowed roads still have a foot of ice/snow on them....specially on the north facing sides. Lake Hunter still has 2 feet of ice.
It was minus 5 this morning and snowing in North Bay.

Ok Limacharlie I was wondering about that. Thx, I know Len keeps the rod plowed to his driveway but not as far as mine. Another 500 yards further down the road. Either way the way is now clear. Stop by if your up there LC .
