I went up last weekend to close up the cottages.  The water is still down and do to the lack of rain it probably will stay down.  The river at Laniel is also low.  The tress have dropped about 80% of their leaves.  The last moose hunters left the camps on Saturday.  Saturday afternoon we sat and had a coffee with Jacques at the Laniel store and talked about the past year.  Jacques store closed for the season on the Sunday.  Everyone seemed tired now that the season was over.  I told Jacques that "Brad" said hi.  I then was told that his nickname is "Snowshoes",  We all had a good llaugh about that.

On Saturday night there was a bad wind and rain storm that caused some damage.  Sunday morning we shut the cottages down did a little hunting and bid farewell to our friends.  We then dropped by the store to get some cheap beer and say good bye to Jacques.

This was our first year as property owners in Laniel.  It was about time since I have been going here for the last 45 years.  It seems we have made a lot of friends here.  Laniel population will now drop back to 13 year around residents lol

600 miles north

Hello Riverrat, thank you for the update on the Laniel area. I appreciate you saying hello to Jacque for me, they are good people who go out of their way for their customers. I hope all is well with them. It was a bummer not making the trip up this summer. Many in my family got up there so at least it got use this year. Did Jacque tell you the story behind my nickname? It's a pretty funny story I will share when I have more time if he didn't.

Hopefully our camp didn't sustain any wind damage in the storm.

Yes Brad Jacques did tell me the story about your nick name.  Hopefully you can make it up next year.  The store is still for sale.  Even if they sell they still plan to stay in the area.
