With the new lockdown measures in place let’s hear your thoughts
Are we allowed to go fishing with our household?
Police are coming out this morning saying they will not stop you but I would think if you are towing a boat that may give them “causeâ€
Saw an article that said effective Monday they're putting 'strict restrictions' on crossing the Quebec border....didn't say for how long. Not sure what that means for those that live in Ontario. .
I'm at camp and have plans to empty an apt. I'm living here all summer again. By the end of April I gotta get the rest of my stuff out. It's not much but still. If i went to Ontario I'd be homeless lol. Maybe I need a lawyer lol. I can think of much worse places to be stuck lol ;D
Puckster I think moving is classed as essential travel
Have they set up a checkpoint at the bridge in Temiscaming?
I wonder if Ford's extra "stupid" outdoor restrictions was a stroke of genius? First off if they do this for a week or two and then walk part of it back way more people will be vaccinated and it will definitely bend the curve. Secondly, we all had become tone death to their messaging. Everyone is talking about this now. Underneath of it all is a crisis within our hospitals. When they kill all elective surgery you know things are not good.
ReRead the restrictions
Border does not close till Monday
Ford is backing down on police powers
We will see about border
I hope they keep the border open. My son can clean out my stuff for me. I can wait either way...
Opening season in my zone is May 14th, and that is the time of year I hook up my boat every Friday night and head out every weekend morning. Doesn't matter if i fish alone, with my dad, or one of my usual 4 or 5 fishing buddies. Unfortunately, I think this stay-at-home order until May 20th is going to impact that... because it is all about the boat launches being open - the municipalities where boat my usual boat launches are will most likely be shut down/restricted access. I hope not, but I will be keeping a very close eye as things unfold the next 4 weeks.
Stay safe everyone.

So Doug Ford said later last night that the OPP will not be stopping motorists questioning them where they're going or what is the reason you're out and about. So doesn't seem like they will be patrolling the borders. The SQ on the Quebec side, I'm still ensure, I'll try and find out today.
I found this as part of an article in the Montreal Gazette: https://montrealgazette.com/news/quebec/quebec-ontario-border-will-close-monday-as-provinces-battle-variants
I was planning on heading out early tomorrow morning with a buddy and a couple trailers to drop off big items and return home the next day...looks like this plan is off for now but would like to hear if passage in and out is moving without fear of a big fine.
I have a week holidays starting May 14, looks like that probably won’t happen now, was so looking forward to it.
Thanks crunchie
We will see
I have property up there, No symptoms and no stops
Here's what I know. The OPP have installed a temporary mobile trailer (Port-a-room style) on the island between Quebec and Ontario. Only vehicles allowed to cross either way are emergency vehicles, cargo, delivery trucks, etc. In other words, vehicles crossing for recreational purposes are not given entry. Now you may see on the news that the OPP are doing sporadic spot checks in some locations,
I really think this is in very high traffic areas where it would be impossible to stop every vehicle in those areas. This is not the case on the island, I would expect that they are stopping all non-commercial vehicles.
Don't shoot the messenger.
PS: For those wondering about Kipawa Lake water level, I would say it's about at least 3 feet below normal, was up there yesterday.
Thanks for the update
There are exceptions for cottage owners and other items deemed essential, both from the Ontario covid rules and Quebec covid rules.
Quebec rules regarding travel:
Travel between regions and cities
Travel are prohibited to regions at Level 2â€"Early Warning (yellow zones) and to the Côte-Nord and Abitibi-Témiscamingue regions.
An exception is, however, made for essential travel by the following people:
- people who have their principal residence there or who have to do maintenance work at their secondary residence;
- people transporting goods in these territories;
- people who need to travel for compassionate reasons;
- people who need to travel to obtain care or services required by their health or to provide care or services to a person who requires them;
- people who work, practice their profession or attend an educational institution there;
- people who must go there in order to comply with an order contained in a court judgment or to exercise parental custody or access rights contained in an agreement;
- federal public service employees whose place of work is in one of these territories and whose presence is required in their workplace by the employer;
- people who transport goods transiting through Québec
- A person who is in a region at the orange or red alert level for a reason other than those listed above and who must return to their principal residence in a region at the green or yellow alert level must self-isolate for 14 days.
Ontario rules regarding travel:
Multiple residences and moving:
19. Travelling to another residence of the individual if,
i. the individual intends to be at the residence for less than 24 hours and is attending for one of the purposes set out in this Order, or
ii. the individual intends to reside at the residence for at least 14 days.
20. Travelling between the homes of parents, guardians or caregivers, if the individual is under their care.
21. Making arrangements to purchase or sell a residence or to begin or end a residential lease.
22. Moving residences.

@Campkipawa that's very helpful information....
Yet another lockdown and people are getting more and more defiant. I get people are frustrated but if people in the GTA and other major cities continue to not care about lowering cases (mass gatherings/protest) then the whole province will lose another year. Annual trip to Alwaki June 5th is in real trouble at this point.
Toronto doesn't think the healthcare system is in trouble, yet Stratford hospital ICU is full of Toronto patients. I hope these restrictions work because they're extreme, and can't get much worse. I can't even camp on crown land to get away and fish at this point. It's a joke.
I hear you
My first trip was scheduled for June 3 to 6
I was going to launch my boat at the landing in Laniel and travel back and forth to the Temrose in town.
That is in limbo at the moment
I had a friend cross this morning. He had no problems crossing at Temiscaming. I plan on going up Thursday to check on my camp in Laniel. Quebec made a exception for people checking on their secondary properties for maintenance. I’ll give you all a update come Thursday.

Back to the original question ( AGAIN ) which asks about us Ontarians being able to fish.
From what I have gathered, yes you can fish with family members but and there are a lot of buts.
Launches are closing.
Marinas are only open to get customers boats ready.
You can not launch for recreational purposes.
You cannot fish out of your geographical zone.
Cops will not stop you randomly .
They may ask for I.D. if they catch you fishing and fine you for being out of your zone.
A lot of ifs and buts.
I guess you have to get caught.
It will look to obvious with five guys driving up the highway in one car or in one boat.
I know that this is our Rainbow opener weekend.
I will be going but only because I fish a private stretch of river with nobody on it.
I agree fishing is open, there was an article from ontario parks saying day fishing is open but no over night activities. Household is going to be the big reason we would have people stopped and questioned if out in a boat or at a launch. They definitely have the borders closed 5 police vehicles at the chenaux crossing up the road from my house yesterday and today. Do we want to fish absolutely, should we, only you can answer that one.
I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but I'm no idiot either. I can see why you're frustrated...it's hard to make heads-or-tails of those rules. And really, much of it flies in the face of common sense.
At the beginning of this BS last late-March, a portion of my golf group were still golfing on Sunday (somehow golf courses got overlooked as everything else in the state was closed); all I said to them was, "A stay at home order is in place, that sounds to me like you're supposed to stay at home." And I did. I waited it out and by late-April they had the 'precautions' in place to play golf safely and the stay-at-home order had been lifted by then for a couple weeks. Maybe 'stay-at-home' order and 'lockdown' are the wrong terms, because in practice they're anything but those descriptions.
I don't know...something is whacky in the world when you can't get a haircut or go out to eat, but can go to a bait-n-tackle store and get wares to go fishing. I guess they're trying to avoid the likelihood of an big SUV pulling a boat, stuffed with friends, aggregating at the launch. Are churches open? Are youth athletic programs (hockey, etc.) still running? Do people still "go into the office" for their work?
Some of these guys on other CDN fishing boards are off-the-chain upset because they can't decipher the rules, but in general believe they are NOT supposed to go fishing outside their immediate area (they think). Many say they're going to ignore the rules and do what they want. Seems to me that's the bulls-eye of the problem in the first place...
Wear a mask...stay 6+ feet apart...be smart about who you hangout with. It's really not that hard. I can't believe these words came out of my mouth the other day, but I told my son, "I'm not even sure I want to go up to Canada right now."
When words like that start flowing from my mouth it's a sad state of affairs, to be sure....
I read an interesting article today.
T-Bone you should google it.
Regarding the amount of international flights coming into Toronto's Pearson Airport
I thing it said 20 flights arriving from India and all flights were infested with COVID.
Do we turn the flight back...... NO.... unload the passengers and give them a big welcome hug.
This is a major problem.
We can't drive across the border alone but planes full of COVID are being welcomed into Toronto.
Something really wrong with this picture
Correct, India and Brazil flights continue to pour in with covid infested passengers.
You can see why cottagers, fishermen, people in general, are frustrated.

Well I was planning on going up Thursday. Got a phone call from my friend up there who talked to some locals. Border is CLOSED except for locals and workers.
Guess that’s it then, probably not going up till May.
Lanielkid.... so they are making their own rules at the border? From the previous posting from Campkipawa #1 Quebec exception was "people who have their principal residence there or who have to do maintenance work at their secondary residence;" Just curious as I am planning to go on Monday. Please keep us updated if you hear anything different. Thanks
I have been told that cottage owners have, and continue to cross without issue. I spoke with the QPP and they told me the rules are very clear, ie: cottagers can cross for maintenance to their secondary residences. They directed me to the website which I posted yesterday.
I have to do a garbage run into town today. Need some other supplies. I will stop by the cop shop in town to plead my case to go back to Barrie and get my stuff. If I can go and return unencumbered then I'm off to town next monday for a few days with my trailer... I'm rather dreading dealing with the border cops on my return with a trailer load and no other place to go lol.

having lawyers considered essential. Major things will happen like buying a house, moving, marriages, court cases..etc

According to some locals up there, yes. Plus, the mayor of Temiscaming said he doesn’t want any cottagers crossing the border. I can’t really get a straight answer, and don’t want to drive all the way from Toronto just to be told to turn around.
This whole situation is quite a mess. It needs to end soon..lol.
Please keep us all advised...
We are looking at entry perhaps this weekend and 5he week before the may long weekend.
Thanks

Here's what I got. I am not nor do I have a Quebec drivers license as I am keeping a Barrie address. Therefore I am still a resident of Ont. I told the cop. I have given up my apt and have no other place to go. He was sympathetic but said I still can't cross. He just had another camp owner in with the same concern but he got the same response. You can leave but you can't come back till this blows over. Emergency visits to camp but you gotta show it's dire before they let you in. Or if they believe you or not. That in a nut shell is the response I got. So it looks like I'm here for a while. I called my son and he can get my stuff so it's no big deal. However I can think of worse places to be stuck. So I guess when trout opens this weekend I can troll for Lakers...

Yeah...sounds dicey. But you're right Puck, there are worse places to "have to" ride out this BS. Always look to the good in anything...and if the Barrie thing is manageable I'd sit back and smile with a cold beer overlooking the lake this evening.
Be safe...and good luck on the lakers. Don't mind saying I'm jealous... ;)
Témiscamingue border crossing:
Yesterday I spoke with the SQ and was told you can enter Quebec for maintenance purposes on a secondary property, the girl I spoke with asked to not stop at retail/gas etc as a courtesy. This morning I spoke with the OPP detachment in North Bay, I was told that Ontario residents will be allowed back into Ontario. So things are still confusing with some above posts. My plan is to still trek up Monday morning, I'm kinda lucky that if I get hung up I have a buddy in Marten River where I can stash my trailer until things change.
I will update and let everyone know how it goes.

Just tell them your neighbor told you with that big wind we had about a month ago, you lost some shingles on your roof and you need to do maintenance in case your roof leaked.

Hey Joe-Do you have a document that shows your lease is up in Barrie? Use that to get into Ontario and a Quebec tax bill to get back to camp??
There was no lease on my apt, hence I have no such paperwork, LC. I'll see who shows up this weekend. I'll go from there.
Hi guys, I'm still at camp. I decided not to cross the fence. My kids got my stuff and stored it for me so the urgency to go is gone. I'll wait for the border and stores to reopen then go get my stuff and some more pine to at least finish the main floor. I'm keeping busy doing chores and trimming out the bedrooms so I can finish and furnish them when I get back. Besides trout is open now and I got my first laker of the season, a nice 24 incher all cleaned and frozen. I thank God for being here when so many cannot. I'll save y6ou guys some fish and beer for when you finally make it here. I agree with Chiaro, I'm thinking things will vastly improve by summer. I will see you folks soon. 8)

I have a friend who has a cottage on Kipawa. I have an invite for the 26th of May. I'd be driving up myself and staying in a separate building so have no worries about cv19.
Question is can I get across the border and is the 26th to early for fishing? Also what about getting the quebec license?
You'll likely need a tax bill
@chiaro . As you know, Ford extended lockdowns another 2 weeks until June.2nd. Like the energizer bunny, it's keeps going and going and going.
As far as I know it's a stay at home order till June 2nd. Police will be at the border. Lodges just lost all there bookings till June 2nd. I would think the same applies to visitors to cottages in the area, Just saying!!
I'm beginning to think, If you're on the south side of the 49th Parallel it just isn't going to Happen this year. Because we have such inadequate leadership at the top of our Pristine Chapel {Ottawa} in not getting vaccine ordered way back when and slackness in closing airports and allowing all these people in from Africa, India, and South America, numbers are NOT declining fast enough. I think we'll be lucky to see the border open for November. I know I won't be very popular, but NUMBERS don't lie but Liars can figure a way to Manipulate them. So far I've missed Crappie season, Walleye Opener, more than likely Lake Trout opener in Ontario. Still quite a few Ontarians caught south of the border from last fall.
I learned yesterday that I qualify as 'essential' in definition as my company provides healthcare software and clinical equipment to hospitals. The GM of our Mississauga office is checking into it closer for me. Have no idea if this opens a door, but it's an angle.
We shall see....

The OPP officers at the border crossing at my house are not stopping anyone going into Quebec and only stopping people with quebec plates coming into ontario. Not sure of other border crossings are the same. I know Quebec is lifting alot of restrictions next Monday and sending kids back to school.

My wife pointed out to me that I may well get in but will I get out without quarqntine!?????
A buddy of mine got stopped on Wednesday going from Ottawa across to Aylmer to go golfing. Officer asked where and why? My buddy replied golf course to go golfing. Officer told him,"Not today, turn around." He turned around , called his buddies, warned about certain bridge, cops on it turning people back. He went to next bridge up upriver, crossed, no problem. I called him out the next morning when he told us. What part of stupid don't you get.
Seen these headlines this morning.. "Trudeau government begins work on reopening US-Canada border". Hope is on the horizon.
Oh it's happening. Those borders will open. Our Canada stats mirror US stats just two months behind. If you look at Ontario stats it looks even better because we do not have the unchecked outbreaks they are having out west and out east.
I just love this part of the pandemic. Over 1/2 the entire population of Canada has gotten a shot, increasing by 2 million weekly. Then increasing to 2.4 million weekly in June. Figuring 80% will get vaccinated then everyone will have their first shot by mid June. Take heart our American brothers, it's happening!!
No QPP here this morning, we just drove through.
