Looks like I'm going up to camp to hide out from the bug for a couple of months. My wife is gonna hunker down with her kids and camp seems the best place for me. I got lots to do there anyway. I'm heading up later this week in case they close down travel etc. Better there then the big city.

I think camp might be the safest place to wait this out. Make sure you have enough supplies. Safe travels Joe

I trust everyone is well.

I just finished watching New York state Governor Cuomo speak for almost an hour on CNN about the Coronavirus situation. IMHO, he exemplified the leadership that so far has been sorely lacking by Trump. It was both sad and troubling to hear Governor Cuomo describe the apparent lack of adherence to social distancing in his state, particularly in NYC. As a consequence, the number of new COVID-19 cases in NYC will continue to rise exponentially. Equally disturbing, as was pointed out by Governor Cuomo, is the price escalation of needed health supplies (e.g. masks, gowns, ventilators) due to bidding wars between states and other countries. It is hopeful that the use of the Defense Production Act could alleviate this situation.

Here in Ontario, IMHO, it is easy to see lots of people not taking social distancing as seriously as they should - and that potentially impacts us all. My wife and I, both in our 70s, limit our trips out of the house to those necessary to resupply. We shop during early morning openings geared towards seniors, we wear gloves while we shop and we wash our hands well after our return home. Regardless, based on information available, there's more than an even chance that one of us or both of us will become infected with this virus. As a consequence, I'm trying to be as prepared as possible for that outcome. Not every 70 year old + senior will die from a COVID-19 infection. Indeed, most will survive and we're doing our best to plan for that outcome.

Jay, My Wife Faye and I share your concern with that virus.  Our lives and families lives are being affected as well.  We have a grand daughter and a grand son that have had to postpone or change their wedding plans.  Our grand daughter actually was married Saturday before a small number of immediate family.  Sadly, Faye and I were not in attendance due to the virus.  Our grandson and fiancé are postponing there wedding indefinitely.

We're in our seventies as well and we both have medical issues that would end our lives should we contract that virus.  Our grown children are at our beckon call though.  Daughter Becky and two grand daughters made a prescription run for me last week and it was strange for them to not actually enter the house.  We talked through the closed door and picked up the prescription when they left. I felt like a caged animal in a zoo and joked to them.... "hey, when is feeding time?"   To our surprise, they created a chalk drawing on our driveway. It depicted Faye and I on our pontoon boat.  I was holding a fishing rod... complete with a large fish and Faye was by my side. Our two dogs were with us too. Faye got a kick out of it as they gave her red hair. She used to have an auburn hair color back in the day.....  but they didn't have silver chalk.

This whole virus thing is a mess.  Our country is woefully unprepared for fighting this virus.  Daughter Heather works for a medical facility and they cannot get basic supplies, yet the powers that be are saying the opposite.  We cannot depend on them so we'll just have to do the best we can. So all you dear friends out there, take care, and maybe say a prayer too. Hopefully we'll get through this and the world will be a better place.

I find it amazing there are still people out there acting like nothing is amiss in their world. I've heard (as I haven't gone out there) the roads in Columbus are as busy as normal...so clearly sheltering-in-place is being ignored. The shopping areas still have people milling around shopping. Not like grocery / pharmacy, like furniture and clothing. Seriously? I just saw they had to close the streets in Washington DC because tourists were heck-bent on seeing the cherry blossom trees in bloom. Really?

I have a coffee cup at my office that says 'I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.' None of it is really accurate, but the last part is becoming much, much easier. I heard a quote yesterday that "40-60 percent" of the population will get the virus at some point. I guess you just have to hope your 'case' is mild if you do.

Ya T-Bone - I agree... my family has been in our house (other than groceries/prescriptions) for over a week now - but yet some of the groups of people I know continue their "oh well, might as well go out" attitude.  Seriously stupid... and seriously disappointing.

Hope everything is ok with you and your families Jay and CC.  My parents live not far (actually only about 1km from Jay if I have my math right, just on the other side of the highway) - we are supplying them just like your kids are!  I am lucky, my daughter drives and has her own car and wants to go help out.

My wife and I are on day 7 of somewhat lock down and day 3 of full lock down since we are both now working from home. I am more than a little stressed. My oldest daughter is 5 months pregnant and my father that I care for is 82 and 100% dependent on my wife and I for his needs. I fear that my dad contracting even a bad cold is not good and then my daughter, who has Dr appointments and some  issues related to the pregnancy. This all cant go away soon enough and I know the real storm hasn't even begun. 

Anyone not taking this seriously, need only see whats happening in Italy. 

I hope everyone here is doing their part and hopefully we can get back to looking forward to our Kipawa get aways soon!

Hey everyone, hope everyone is keeping healthy and safe.
As many on this board, we too thought this was all a little extreme when things first started (the toilet paper hoarding, the general panic etc).
But as time progressed and you look at the numbers (the infectious rates, the doubling of cases every 2-3 days) it's hard not to follow suit and realize this isn't a joking matter.

So we've been hunkering down as well.
My wife has been working mainly from home (she works in the medical industry).
The contract work I was doing (software) I've put on hold and have been taking on dad / teacher role as the kids are now out of school indefinitely.
We started our first "kids learn at home" day yesterday and that went well, ask me how it's going a month from now and I may have a different story LOL!

We're pretty well set-up here at home and have camp as a back-up.
We are still able to travel to camp (and plan to do so this weekend coming up) only because we can literally leave home and get to camp with zero human interactions.
The only stop required would be to fill up gas before we leave, in which case we can pay at the pump.

As @Dog has mentioned a few times, this too shall pass, in the meantime, stay safe and we hope everyone is doing well.

This virus is a mess, Got a new job start April 6 ,That was the good news  Now the bad former employer did not pay out 300 plus hours of pay time off , and no vacation with the new employer so no Kipawa trip this summer .this virus is no joke so stay at home .prayer for and stay safe.

Wow...that's no good. Amazing they're closing the hospital. Around here, they're looking at 're-opening' hospitals that have been out of service for years. Locally, they're setting-up our convention center to serve as 1,000 bed acute care facility in preparation for the surge of cases that are likely just in this area.

No matter what...missing a year of Kipawa is a bummer. We all may be in the same boat, unfortunately, if this carries through the summer.

  My brother and I were at Ogascanon last summer after a 17 year break from Quebec that I described in introductions, now we are both retired but don't know what to plan. My wife and I have an RV rally in early June that's probably not going to happen and I've got a Navy reunion in Sept at Oklahoma City that I'm still holding hope for. Since my brother and I are retired we can make last minute plans for fishing when things get better.
