My wife and I work from home so the impact on us is minimal other than when we do go out, there are less people...
We've stopped going to the gym for a while. We cancelled a house hunting trip to the DC area in early March, just wasn't worth it. pretty much staying home and going for walks to get some fresh air.

China was burning bodies in December and January, so we have all been living amongst it since then... no one really put any travel restrictions on China until late Jan/ early Feb... with the world being so connected these days the number of infected in reality is huge, but there's no way to really know without enough testing for everyone to get tested... There's also no way to really know the mortality rate without accurate number of infected and deaths...

The only reason the world is reacting the way it is,  because there is no known effective cure/ vaccine or medication. Best case is your body fights it off naturally which is does in the majority of cases except for those at higher risks who get their symptoms treated but not the virus in hope the immune system can fight it off.

All this to say, keep calm. This too shall pass, eventually.
In the mean time, hope everyone stays healthy.

Just read this same time I saw your link the CDN border closed to non-residents; hope that's lifted before May 20th.

Already working on back-up plans if that's the case...

@T-Bone    The Canadian border is still open to USA residents - I watched our Prime ministers press conference today - and he got questioned on that during the Q&A - why was it not restricted to USA residents entering Canada???... his response "strong interwoven economy with the USA".

@Greg...just saw that last evening...and I slept like a baby...     Thanks. Still...this whole thing makes me more than a little nervous. I hear people I know and respect that describe themselves as 'skeptical' this whole thing is really as bad as being told. I simply said I'm not willing to risk if they're wrong.

T-Bone - I totally agree.  Media has certainly latched onto this... I wonder if they gave the common flu the same attention and tracking graphics how it would stack up....

I find myself walking up and down the grocery isle and think ... Is it really that bad???    OH well, an extra package of pasta, an extra box of cereal, etc.  Suddenly your cart is overflowing and you have 4 more isles to go!! HAHA.

Yes, lets focus on the count down!   Unfortunately ALL the fishing shows got cancelled last weekend (Peterborough where I was headed, the sportsman show in Toronto)... unfortunate and a disappointment but the right thing to do to try to slow the spread down.  The health system is getting overwhelmed - kudos to all the staff on the front line. 

Ottawa has requested all restaurants, pubs, bars to now close... and many retail stores are closing also.  I don't think we have seen the biggest impact yet.   Back to the count down....

I only hope whatever good does come out of this, are sustainable improvements to how to mitigate the spread and treatment of respiratory illnesses in the future
This too shall pass and when it does it would be great if we learned something as a society which will help prevent thousands of death form the flu in future years or different mutates strains of the coronavirus)... wash hands all the time, disinfect touch surfaces regularly in all businesses and public spaces and transportation (and homes), more telecommuting permitted during peak flu seasons, more easily available tele-health for the medical industry, practice social distancing (or at a minimum avoid large gatherings) during peak flu season by habit, and wearing masks if sick anytime... (in more densely populated countries in asia, the sick people wear masks to protect the healthy people out of compassion (not the healthy people wearing masks to prevent from getting sick), more rigorous and disinfecting cleaning of all airplanes between flights.

Also I believe each country is going to be looking at how to not depend on China (and other closed societies) for their supply chains. It's hard to trust a country that covers up the start of a global pandemic with supplying critical healthcare items (like medications) and national security items/ components, not to mention they are a strategic enemy of the USA.

At the end of the day I also believe the USA will expand its SPR to 6 times the size to keep us energy independent from Saudia Arabia and Russia... (right now our SPR only hold enough crude for a 1 month supply when full) we're going to be buying crude only from our frackers for the next 20 days to fill it to the top, then once it's full we need to keep them solvent until MBS and Putin get done with their price war... doing this will also permit the USA to buy oil low and sell it higher to help pay down our national debt. the USA govt needs to think of ways to make money other than taxing it's citizens... selling energy to our allies is a natural way to generate revenue where everyone benefits.

I have spent my entire life ignoring the extremists and propagandist......... I have always hoped and lived my life with the thoughts and ideas  that everything is going to be ok, no matter what ridiculousness is being spueed by agents of hate and fear mongers.........

Having said that, I left Friday for a week in Nashville thinking the fear mongers where at it again. We were scheduled for weeks to meet for a spring break/week with my brother listening to great live music, visiting and relaxing. That lasted one day. Sunday the Mayor of Nashville ordered all of Nashville shutter, we scrambled and raced home and worried about highway travel and gas to make the 600 mile trip home. We thankfully had no problem getting home.

So I’m now on day 5 of my vacation and spent the last two days stockpiling food, ammo and gasoline.

Where I live, the wheels are coming off and I see looting just days away as our Governor of the state of PA has announced mandatory shutdown of ALL non life threatening businesses to shutter in the entire state of Pennsylvania. WTF! Are you kidding me! I Am now afraid for me and my family and preparing for the worst and praying for the best.

I hope all my efforts are for not and I can laugh about it with @T-Bone this summer while drinking some cold ones on the porch of our cabin at Alwaki. Right now I’m on lock down with weapons loaded and freezer full.

Strange times...that's for sure. As for sipping a beer on the porch at Alwaki...I'm all for it...but I'm not sure the things will be getting back to normal by then. I hope they are, but I'm not betting on it. My company is a leader in healthcare equipment...and all I can tell you is hospitals are gearing-up for something they've never seen and are currently not prepared for. Good for business...bad for the psyche.

I'm hoping the pharma community can come up with both a vaccine and meds to treat this virus very, very soon...or we're going to living in a world none of us are accustomed to for some time into the future.

Stay home...stay safe...and most of all try to stay healthy.

Hey Hodgey, I hope it does not get as bad as you fear, but you never know.

here in Niagara Ont, after the initial run supplies, things are getting back to normal, or a new normal. I just went out to top up on a few things, shelves almost fully stocked again, no lineups, even went to beer store and was in and out faster then ever. Streets are empty. A lot of worried faces, but then a lot of civility and people seem very polite. We need that, it could be so easy for people to snap.

I always used my Kipawa trip as a means of looking forward and day dreaming when I got stressed, which was usually work. Seems trivial now. One of my buddies on the trip lives in Pa, another works in health department here, so in my mind our may trip is cancelled.

Anyways, take care all and hopefully we all get to kipawa sooner than later.

 Looks like I'm going up to camp to hide out from the bug for a couple of months. My wife is gonna hunker down with her kids and camp seems the best place for me. I got lots to do there anyway. I'm heading up later this week in case they close down travel etc. Better there then the big city.

I think camp might be the safest place to wait this out. Make sure you have enough supplies. Safe travels Joe
