Hello all. Nice to post on a new board for Kipawa. Tried to register on the other board for years but was unable to. I was in Kipawa yesterday. The ice is on its way out. The water levels are rising and the ice has left the shoreline, won't be long now. May 5th or so. Looking forward to another busy season #27 :)

600 miles north

Glad you were able to get through on this site Wayne, and welcome! I checked the weather this morning and it looks like rain, wind, and above freezing temps for several days. Your right it wont be long now...

Welcome aboard Wayne. That is great news for the guys going up early. Thanks.

Brian

I was in kipawa for the last couple of days and I agree with you Wayne . I think the ice should be out sometime next week.   Nice boat Wayne

Is the ice turning black? All we need is some strong wind from the south or southwest. I am going back Monday or Tuesday. We need get to camp real soon. The last time the ice was this late leaving was around 1990. I got to camp May 9th and we opened May 15th. 6 days wasn't much time. Could be the same scenario. The fishing that year was amazing. I am anxious to run up the lake with the new boat. I will post again when I make it to the lodge.

I'm heading up to my camp tomorrow morning. Get everything up and running. I'll post some pics next week.

home from my first weekend "opening" the camp. I  have about 20 pics and 2 short videos on my photobucket page. Check'em out. It rained about 60% of the time so I wasn't outside much. Put on rain gear and went for a short walk.
The lake is about 90% clear in my neck of the woods(McLauglan lake/red pine chutes area). Almost all the snow is gone save for some shady areas or in the woods. Maniwaki and red pine chutes roads were both in good condition. There's a washout on maniwaki around km22 right near where it washed out last spring. Just a small path on the north side to get past it. All the lakes on the way that i could see were also largly ice free. Looking good guys, lets go fishing :) :)

Thanks for the update Puck...looking like everything will be 'open' for opener. Interesting that no one has had the prognostications of how this will affect the walleye spawn yet. I'd bet there will be a lot of boats hugging the line near the sanctuaries.

Anyway, here's what we got with regard to who will likely be the big winner of the big prize...probably will come out of this roster:

600: May 6
Rhinoboy: May 7
MrsPikie: May 8
T-Bone: May 9

Today, May 5th, was Whiskey Fox's prediction. It would almost seem fitting if he was right.

All we need is someone to call it. Reggie? Brian? Sweetmarie?

81...

Big thank you Joe for some pictures of flowing water on Kipawa. You must have enjoyed your weekend immensely after the winter we've endured. Also enjoyed the pics and videos on your link to your photobucket.
