64 days left until we take off for Watson Lake once again.  There are seven of us this year...all veteran Quebec travelers and all looking forward to it.  Having our first planning meeting this Saturday...seems like the planning is as much a tradition as the trip itself and, although very little changes from year to year, the anticipation still makes it fun.  We will do some planning, tell stories (the same ones we always tell), have a few drinks and food, play cards and just plain enjoy the friendship.

That's what it's all about

21 days and counting.
The shopping starts Sunday.

7 Days till paradise........ Heading in for 4 days of fishing with my oldest boy (13), my Dad, a buddy and his kid.    Kids second trip to Kipawa.   My 15th !    Will be fishing Grindsone/McLachlin area.    Will try and post a report upon return.    Can't wait !!

Troll the narrows between Grindstone and McLauglin. They're hitting there now.
Days spent fishing don't count against life :)

Balsams

24 hrs from now I'll have had an awesome first day, with full belly, into my PJ's, sipping on a cocktail (almost ready to tuck in for the night). Here's to hoping the fish are biting and not the bugs.......

20 days yet and it can't get here fast enough - staying at Taggart Bay

We have a tradition with our 3 sons that when they graduate from high school we go to Kipawa earlier than we normally do and the graduate gets a bear hunt -
The boy is hoping for a bear the first night so he can join the rest of us fishing for the remainder of the week.

Made a trip to Bass Pro last night - thought I only needed a few things but walked out with a bigger bill than I expected- Bass Pro has a way of doing that to me!!

SgtCrabby

I'm still at that big number of 80 days, which is only when I leave my house! Add 4 days of travel to get to the lake.
Will it ever get here?
There must be trip reports coming in now to get me through this long time...

Mortician; I refer to all the stuff you leave places like BassPro as "leapers", stuff that just leaps into your basket without you realizing it. Also happens at Cabela's and all other tackle stores.

78 Days and I'll be on my way... whoohooo...

Got the new boat home in the driveway and am about 60% through organizing, storing gear and setting it up.  Anxious is not the word - 3 weeks to opening day here on the Ottawa river. /quote]

So Greg, I'm wondering what your plan is to go through Turtle chute with the new ride. I watched your video from last year a few times over the winter lol, but somehow I don't think your first few runs will be like that one.

Cheers

Greg

HA... ya, I will be cautious... I have had a crazy last 6 weeks - I haven't posted much at all - just no energy... 5 trips with work and I leave again tomorrow  for 3 days (4th week in a row) - when I get back Thursday night, I will pack and I leave Friday morning for my first fishing trip of the summer - a quick 3 day trip I did last year on the Ottawa river near Cobden - looking forward to it!!

I have had the new boat out on the Rideau river twice so far - the Ottawa river here is still WAAAYYYY to high (water levels rose over 10 or 11 feet in April into May).  Unfortunately I had an incident on my 2nd outing - the brand new electric motor came unlatched (??) at 45mph and got pretty much destroyed - I am waiting for that repair so I am borrowing one this weekend.  I swear I latched the motor in tight before - it doesn't make sense how/why that would just stand up because of some minor vibrations from the waves.

The new boat is fantastic, and I never thought I would love a new motor so much, it's nice to have a 150hp (versus my old 90hp) but the two stroke has such different characteristics - it just shoots out of the hole SOO fast.  Also, having a fiberglass hull - what a difference in the handling... I'm like a kid in a candy store.

I promise to go through the Chute (assuming water levels are adequate) as fast as I filmed that video (which was over 30mph or 35mph I think) - but not at top speed!

I love all the new posts and seeing all the new names (members) on the board - great to see.

Well...one more sleep. The "Old Farts" return. Our group of 6 will be heading to Kipawa tomorrow. We all are a little anxious to get there. It looks a little cool and some rain for the  Sunday and maybe Monday. But better after that. As they say...it is what it is. We expect our fair share of bug bites, but also a few nice walleye meals. This is our groups 34th year. Time has flown by!

We were up to Kipawa last week! Rained every day but one and the bugs were terrible! Good news though, we caught a lot of fish! Will be back again this coming weekend for another weel!
Happy fishing everyone!

;D 3 days and counting ;D   Yup, the moons have aligned to allow for a quick 4day trip to Alwaki take 2. Weather forecast looks great and I'm super excited to try out the new boat. This trip will be a mix of fishing and relaxing, my wife is going, so 5:00 am wake up may not happen but once or twice.  ;D Can't wait!
