For the first time the US has a lower infection rate then Canada. They came down from a very high spot and we are at our highest rate yet. This shows that vaccinations work. We are a bit more then a month behind you vaccination wise.

They have closed schools for the rest of the year in Ontario. That's what should happen with high infection rates. It looks bad now but I'd put money on that it's going to look darn good two months from now. It's not the infection or death rate that counts, it's the hospitalization rate. Our hospitals run at near capacity during normal times. That rate should come down two months from now.

So not at all happy with the latest news I read regarding the opening of the border.  Now they're talking possibly September before things get back to normal.  I'm still hoping things will get better by mid summer.

I still think we will get an opening of the border this summer. Premier is like a ref in an out of control hockey game calling penalties to change our behaviour because of the variants. The hospitals can't triple the amount of intensive care patients without a lot of people dying. Previously when the Premier gets tougher we fall in line.

I could be wrong but the entire purpose of "locking down" in the first place was to limit the transmission to a point where the hospitals and ICU's wouldn't be overwhelmed and there were enough ventilators and PPE. This is currently not the case in America or Canada (With the vaccines getting rolled out and available treatment drips, so dare I ask a hypothetical?..... what's the point of continuing to keep everyone locked down?
Lockdowns were never intended to stop the spread completely or eradicate the virus, just slow it to a manageable level we can live with... and guess what? We are all living with it. Even if one isn't vaccinated the world has adapted... social distancing, wearing a mask and people managing their own risk, the way it should be. If a vaccine is available and people choose not to get it, that's on them as far as I'm concerned, just like the flu vaccine.

Why punish everyone in a city, country or continent under the guise that we can somehow beat this virus. Not gonna happen people, we will be living with it or variant of it, forever. Keeping the border closed or regulating how many people can be in one car or in one cabin on a fishing trip is simply nonsensible power grab by politicians who like power.

There's nothing more permanent than a temporary government program, someone once said and we are unfortunately living thru this reality right now.... Even in America we're printing money under the façade there is an economic "emergency" we need to recover from...um, there is no emergency which requires helicopter money dropping from the sky or an obscene amount of government spending which will be rife with corruption and no accountability on it's return. sorry fo ranting. just tiiiiiiiiiired of this crap
One more cast...

Looking at the 7 day moving average for Ontario the curve is bent already. Looking to the US they have really cut their infection rate and that has been through vaccination. Israel is opening up. Look at Gibraltar, zero new local cases. It's totally opened up because they have the highest vaccination rate in the world. It's darkest before the dawn.

Whatever

I'll be on Kipawa for three trips in June regardless if borders are open or closed

@RHYBAK We will all be patiently waiting for those 3 trip reports. And another question: With much less fishing pressure what will that mean overall for the fishery? Will loons be walking on the backs of walleye like ducks do with carp in Pymatuning? Will they get rid of the slot limit for a time in the near future?

Don't think the fishing pressure was down because the borders were closed.
Some of the fishing camp filled up with local Quebec and Ontario Residents.

They could not travel out of country so they hit the fishing camps

My fishing showed no change last year.
This year may be a different story
What I do wish is the Ministry would lighten up on the regulations and let us keep one over the slot

Well...I know without Hodgey's and my group there a lot more walleye NOT being caught! Mattie could feed a platoon on his own. Oh man...I miss getting up there. Patience...I know. Unfortunately I have little to none.   :(
